STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 17, 2023 – Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) host Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins (5-1) in a battle of division-leading teams in the Week 7 edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa., on NBC, Peacock, and Universo.
Sunday’s game marks the first career NFL matchup between Hurts and Tagovailoa, who were teammates at the University of Alabama for two seasons (2017-2018). Both first-round draft picks, the quarterbacks were members of the Crimson Tide team that won the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship and lost in the 2018 CFP title game.
The Eagles fell to the New York Jets, 20-14, in last week, as Hurts threw for 280 yards and a touchdown and added 47 yards rushing and a score on the ground. All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown, who ranks second in the NFL in receiving yards (672) behind Miami’s Tyreek Hill, had 131 yards receiving on seven receptions. Brown and Hill are only the third and fourth players in the Super Bowl era to record at least 125 receiving yards in four of their team’s first six games of a season.
The Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers, 42-21, last weekend to improve to 5-1. Through six games, Miami’s offense (2,922 yards) ranks second all-time in the first six games of a season in NFL history, trailing only the 2000 “Greatest Show on Turf” St. Louis Rams. The Dolphins’ 223 points scored rank fifth in NFL history through six games.
A four-time All-Pro, Tyreek Hill’s 814 receiving yards are the most by a player in his team’s first six games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Additionally, running back Raheem Mostert, who had three touchdowns in last week’s win, is only the sixth player with at least 11 touchdowns in his team’s first six games of a season.
The Dolphins and Eagles, who are tied for the best record in the NFL this season, meet for the 16th time on Sunday, with Miami leading the all-time series, 9-6. Sunday’s game will also be the first matchup of teams 5-1 or better on Sunday Night Football at this point in the season since 2015 (6-0 Green Bay vs. 6-0 Denver on Nov. 1).
Calling Dolphins-Eagles is Mike Tirico (play-by-play); 17-time Emmy Award winner Cris Collinsworth (analyst); and Melissa Stark (sideline reporter). Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay is the Sunday Night Football rules analyst.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING:
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-18. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-17, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.
For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 8. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
