Birmingham’s Jonathan Spector headed for scans amid injury worries

USMNT fringe player Jonathan Spector went down in stoppage time of Birmingham City’s 2-1 loss to Fulham last weekend, and things don’t look good.

According to Birmingham manager Steve Watson, there’s a chance he could be out for an extended period of time with a thigh injury.

“It is his thigh,” Watson said prior to Tuesday’s match. “Different to the one he injured last time. But I think this week might be too early for him. How serious it is, I don’t know.”

Watson said Spector would go for more testing today and the results would be known soon after. If there is a muscle tear involved, as the Birmingham Mail puts it, he “could be out for weeks.”

With the international break coming up and manager Jurgen Klinsmann looking to tap deep into the United States’ talent pool, this injury is terribly unfortunate timing for the right-back.

Before the injury Spector had played in all of Birmingham’s matches this year except the season opener, and in his eight appearances, he’s made it 90 minutes in six of them. He did not play in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Millwall.

To add insult to injury, the loss to Fulham provided the first three points the Whites had secured all season.
