Burnley 1-2 Man City; Aguero’s double sends City top

Dean Marney got Burnley out to an early lead with a stellar strike, but Sergio Aguero scored back-to-back goals to give Manchester City a 2-1 win at Turf Moor.

Manchester City beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side battled back from 1-0 down to momentarily go top of the Premier League table.

Dean Marney’s stunner put Burnley ahead in the first half but Aguero equalized before the break and his scrappy effort in the second half gave City the win.

Guardiola’s side now move on to 30 points, while Burnley remain on 14 points.

Burnley had a penalty shout early on as a free kick into the box found Jeff Hendrick and he went down under contact from Nicolas Otamendi but no penalty was awarded.

After that Man City broke and Aguero’s shot from the edge of the box was saved well down low by Paul Robinson.

Moments later Burnley took the lead as Robinson launched a long ball forward which found Marney 25 yards out and he hit a volley into the bottom corner. Turf Moor erupted. 1-0 to Burnley.

Nolito then had a chance down low with Robinson saved well as City did all the pressing as they tried to equalize before half time.

Yaya Toure played a one-two and drilled a shot off the near post and then Nolito’s shot was well blocked by Matt Lowton. From the resulting corner, City were level as a scramble in the box fell to Aguero at the back post and he poked home. 1-1.

Robinson then denied Aguero and before the break Scott Arfield was brought on for the injured Marney and then Johann Berg Gudmundsson went down with a hamstring knock and James Tarlowski replaced him.

Sam Vokes had a chance for Burnley before half time but his header was saved down low by Claudio Bravo.

In the second half City pinned Burnley back with Toure smashing over and then a moment of pure comedy arrived.

With Toure going down in the box (he had a good shout for a penalty kick) three Burnley players got in each others way and eventually the ball bobbled to Fernandinho who cut it back for Aguero and the ball bounced off his shin and in. Somehow, City lead 2-1. They all count...

Burnley almost equalized late on but Bravo saved Michael Keane’s header after a goalmouth scramble and then the Chilean stopped Ashley Barnes’ overhead kick.
