The biggest club in Scotland is going to have a Scandinavian boss.
Ronny Deila is the man taking over for Neil Lennon, who recently resigned from the post of Celtic manager after three titles in four seasons.
Deila, 38, comes from Stromsgodset in Norway’s Tippeligaen. It’s a legendary club that had fallen on hard times, and Delia helped lead them back into Europe after taking over in 2008 at the tender managerial age of 32.
From the BBC:“It is a magnificent honour to be named the new manager of Celtic, one of the world’s great football clubs and a club I have such enormous respect for.
“I know what I want for Celtic and our supporters and that is the best of everything, it is what our fans deserve.
“I want to deliver the best attacking, exciting and entertaining football we can play, for the players to give their best every time they take to the field of and, of course, I want my players to work with me to achieve the best results possible and bring trophies to Celtic.”
Celtic will be runaway favorites to, well, runaway with the Scottish Premiership. Hearts, Hibs and Rangers are all in Scotland’s second flight last season, and Celtic crushed the Premiership field in 2013-14 by 29 points. They lost just once in Premiership play.
Deila is the 17th manager in Celtic history.
