After being shunned by Manchester United, David Moyes was given a fresh start in Spain.

Following a scoreless draw in his first match in charge, Moyes earned his first win against a struggling Elche side that sits second-to-last on the La Liga table.

Real Sociedad defeated Elche 3-0 on the heels of a hat trick from Mexican international Carlos Vela.

The win lifts Sociedad to 12th on the table, just a point outside of the top-ten. However, they are only three points out of the relegation zone as the bottom half of La Liga is extremely tight at this point in the season.

Moyes can thank Carlos Vela for the win as his striker caused problems for the overmatched Elche defense, scoring a hat trick before the clock struck 60 minutes. Vela opened the scoring on a header in the third minute before burying two clinical finishes on either side of the half.

If Moyes wants his side to continue to produce results, he will need to rely on Vela whose recent form has been superb following his brace for Mexico against the Netherlands earlier in the month. After a three-year absence from the national team, Vela returned in style for El Tri as his form has carried over to La Liga.

Despite the improvement under Moyes, Real Sociedad’s Anoeta Stadium was still nearly half empty for their match against an Elche side that is stuck in the relegation zone.
