Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon traded to LA Galaxy for allocation money

For allocation money, San Jose Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy, the club where he got his start in MLS ten years ago.

“Alan is a proven MLS player who adds another scoring threat to our roster going forward,” said LA Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena in a statement, via “We are pleased to welcome him back as a member of the Galaxy.”

Gordon tallied the best numbers of his career in 2012, scoring 13 goals and seven assists. This season, the 32-year-old has started six games and scored zero goals.

The Long Beach, Ca. native had short one-year stints with other MLS squads: Chivas USA, the Portland Timbers and Toronto FC. He’s also made one appearance for the U.S. men’s national team against Antigua and Barbuda.

“We would like to thank Alan for everything he has done for this club,” said Earthquakes general manager John Doyle in a statement. “Alan has produced many great moments during his years with the Earthquakes. We wish him well going forward.”
