Chelsea will be without their captain and defensive lynchpin John Terry for the massive UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Terry, 35, was clattered by Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the first half of Chelsea’s 5-1 Premier League win against the Magpies on Saturday.

The veteran defender has remained in London instead of traveling with the squad to Paris and the club are calling his injury a “minor problem with his hamstring and ligament.”

It is not known how long Terry will be out for but it appears the damage isn’t too bad as he joined in with a light training session on Monday before the team departed. All of this comes following his statement saying he will not be offered a new deal at Chelsea beyond this season after 21 years of service for the Stamford Bridge club.

Below is the statement from Chelsea’s website, as Oscar is included in the traveling party. Plus U.S. national team youngster Matt Miazga has also made the trip to Paris as Chelsea’s defensive issues worsen with Terry joining Kurt Zouma on the sidelines after the latter
ruptured his ACL during the 1-1 draw against Manchester United last Sunday.

Guus Hiddink and the squad set off for France this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League Round of 16 first-leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

John Terry has not travelled due to a minor problem with his hamstring and ligament. Oscar, who missed Saturday’s 5-1 win over Newcastle, was part of the travelling party having trained at Cobham this morning.

Matt Miazga has also travelled, along with 18-year-old Jake Clarke-Salter, who has been involved with the first team squad since Kurt Zouma was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Nemanja Matic is suspended for tomorrow’s game but has made the trip. Pato has remained in the UK.

It is likely that Guus Hiddink will line his side back four up exactly how they finished the clash against Newcastle with Cesar Azpilicueta at right back, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic at center back and Baba Rahman at left back.

USMNT youngster Miazga may get a spot on the bench at the Parc des Princes against a red-hot PSG side who are flying high at the top of Ligue 1 with a 24-point lead over their nearest rivals. If Miazga does make the matchday squad, it would be his first official involvement in an 18-man squad since the 20-year-old center back arrived in January from the New York Red Bulls.
