Sporting Gijon 2-1 Atletico Madrid

If Barcelona weren’t already the champions-elect, they will be with a victory on Sunday after second-place Atletico Madrid fell to 19th-place Sporting Gijon away from home on Saturday. Antoine Griezmann (17th league goal in 30 games) put the visitors ahead on 29 minutes, but an epic Atleti meltdown and a pair of late Sporting goals in the 79th and 89th minutes (below videos) resigned Diego Simeone’s side to defeat. A win on Sunday would put Barca 11 points clear of Atleti with eight games left to play.

Roma 1-1 Inter Milan

Any hopes Roma may have had of re-entering the Serie A title race went up in smoke when they dropped a pair of points at home against Inter Milan on Saturday. Having done so, the gap between them, in third, to leaders Juventus is now seven points, with the four-time defending champions still to play on Sunday. Ivan Perisic put the visitors ahead on 59 minutes, but Radja Nainggolan managed to steal a point for the Romans with his 84th-minute equalizer. Inter remain five points back of Roma in the race for Italy’s third and final UEFA Champions League place.
