Manchester City and Bosnia-Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko didn’t play much in his squad’s 2-2 draw vs. QPR in Premier League action on Saturday, as he was taken off the pitch with a calf problem only four minutes into his substitution.
He is now set to miss around three weeks with the injury, and that may have City in a tricky situation depth-wise, with only two readily available strikers, Stefan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero, with the Argentine striker enjoying great form, which would definitely be missed to a greater extent that what Dzeko has to offer.
Nonetheless, the 6-foot-4 forward does have significant value to Manuel Pellegrini and Co., and is expected to miss multiple games--one against Swansea, a Champions League clash vs. Bayern Munich and the journey to Southampton.
Sky Sports detailed his reaction to the injury, while including the thoughts of his international side’s manager and doctor.Bosnia-Herzegovina team doctor Reuf Karabeg said: “It’s a very serious injury and requires the kind of treatment whose time-frame unfortunately rules out a quick return.”
“I am extremely disappointed with the news that I will miss this (Israel) match but I have faith in my team-mates and believe that they have it in them to get a result,” Dzeko said.
“If Dzeko can’t play we will be resigned to playing for a draw against Israel because we have no hope of winning without him,” coach Safet Susic said.Bosnia-Herzegovina, fifth place out of the Euro 2016 Group B qualifiers, will play Israel on Sunday in hopes of bolstering their spot.
