“Maybe last year we would have lost” -- Wenger, Walcott on Arsenal draw(video)

Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger discuss the 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger couldn’t suppress a laugh after acknowledging the elephant in the room; Arsenal continues to disappoint against Manchester United.

Olivier Giroud’s late equalizer, the squad’s first effort on goal, provided Arsenal with a point at Old Trafford, but there’s little question that Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils were much better than the Gunners.

Wenger was asked whether Arsenal’s relative struggles on Saturday relate to their failure to do much of anything against Manchester United in recent years.

“It’s funny you tell me that because I wondered that during the game, and honestly you never know,” Wenger said. “Last year we would’ve lost maybe this game and today we didn’t lose it so we have improved on that front, so hopefully we can move on and get some wins.”

...

“They were (aggressive). The feeling is that we lacked a bit of sharpness today. What is it down to? I don’t know, but at least we had a good mental response to come back and get a point.”

Arsenal has to get off the mat quickly, and Wenger vowed that the team would put in a good performance on Tuesday against Paris Saint-Germain. That match will decide who is seeded in the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League.

Theo Walcott echoed the bright side (via Sky Sports), saying, “Maybe in years gone by we would have lost this game, but we managed to get that point, which we deserved.”.
