Toni Kroos is sticking around the Real Madrid engine room, and if rumors are true he’ll be the highest-paid German footballer in history.
Oft-linked with a move back to the Bundesliga -- or a Premier League debut -- the 26-year-old has signed a new contract that ties him to the Bernabeu through 2021-22.
AS had reported that Kroos’ deal would pay him $22 million per season.

Kroos has 74 caps with 12 goals for Germany, and has become an extremely valuable and versatile midfielder for Madrid. He’s ably filled in for injured stalwart Casemiro.
The midfielder spent 2007-14 with Bayern Munich, with the exception of a loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen. He’s won three Bundesliga titles, two Champions League titles (one Madrid, one Bayern) and the 2014 World Cup.
Kroos will be 32 at the end of that contract, and the final two years of the deal will see him discussed as a possible transfer target for MLS clubs (See what we did there).
