Ronaldo hails Van Gaal, says Dutchman will make United champions ‘very soon’

Really catapulting himself to stardom at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo does have his opinion about his former club where he thoroughly enjoyed his time from 2003 to 2009, when he was sold to Real Madrid for a world-record fee.

Following a distressing 2013-14 campaign under ex-Everton manager David Moyes, big-name signings and the appointment of Dutch national team manager Louis van Gaal came with expectations of a quick turnaround.

And although Manchester United haven’t slid into a Champions League position in the BPL table, spring is a long ways away, and the superstar forward won’t make any assumptions regarding the quality of Van Gaal’s leadership, calling the coach “fantastic” and referencing the opinion of former head coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Van Gaal is a fantastic coach and I am certain he will make United champions again – if not this year then very soon after that,” he said, according to the Daily Mirror.

“Sir Alex Ferguson said that Van Gaal will need time - and he is right. Because, in the beginning at United, even Sir Alex didn’t win anything for a few years. To get a good squad and a good team takes time, so lets give Van Gaal the time he needs.”

Ronaldo does have a point, although time will tell if he’s actually right, and he also hinted at the complexity of the Premier League hierarchy when talking about the Red Devils’ chances.

“I hope Manchester United can come again at the top of the league but, at the moment, they are many points behind Chelsea.

“The Premier League is a complicated. Even the clubs at the bottom of the table can beat those at the top, so it is very tough.”
