Sunderland was absolutely dominated at St. Mary’s this Saturday, conceding eight goals in what manager Gus Poyet called his “most embarrassing” moment in football.

The only bigger defeat in Premier League history was back in 1995 when Manchester United nearly scored double digits in a 9-0 win over Ipswich.

The 8-0 score line was Sunderland’s biggest loss in 32 years, and goalkeeper Vito Mannone is trying to make up for their supporter’s disappointment.

I will personally talk to the team to see if it is possible to pay for their tickets and their trip.

We should do it because we didn’t put a foot in, we didn’t work hard. We started the game well but after we conceded we threw in the towel and I include myself. “

If Mannone is a man of his word, he and his teammates will have to start collecting dues. About 2,500 Sunderland fans made the trek to Southampton, which totals nearly 700 miles round trip.

Hopefully the players or the club do come through to thank the supporters who travelled to St. Mary’s. The Premier League has some of the most adamant fans in the world, and with ticket prices always rising, it would be a great sign of respect if they were repaid for their loyalty.

I’m sure Sunderland supporters will be just as happy if the Black Cats can rebound and get a result against Arsenal next weekend.
