Timmy’s tactics didn’t last long at Villa Park...eight months, to be exact.
With Aston Villa sitting in 19th position on just four points from the season’s first 10 matches, Aston Villa has sacked manager Tim Sherwood, the club announced Sunday in a statement.
This weekend’s 2-1 loss to Swansea City was the club’s sixth straight defeat, scoring just five goals over that stretch. Following the Swansea loss, he called out his players for not being confident enough.
Assistant manager Kevin MacDonald will take over for Sherwood on an interim basis, while the rest of Sherwood’s staff have also left the club, including assistant manager Ray Wilkins, first-team coach Mark Robson and performance analyst Seamus Brady.
“The Board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative,” Villa wrote in the statement. “However, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup during his time with the Club. We wish him well in the future.”
Sherwood was appointed in February to replace Paul Lambert, and while he barely saved them from relegation last season, the poor results carried over into this campaign.
Names mentioned as possible replacements include Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes.
