Jonas Gutierrez was dropped by Newcastle United due to his cancer diagnosis, an employment tribunal has decided.

Gutierrez, 32, was suing Newcastle for $3 million after he claimed disability discrimination against the Magpies.

The Argentine winger will appear in court soon to settle the compensation as he claimed the club saw his as a liability after he returned.

Gutierrez was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2013 and sued Newcastle for the way they treated him after his diagnosis, during his treatment and then when he returned to action.

He was released by Newcastle at the end of the 2014-15 Premier League season despite becoming a fans favorite, and spent a spell out on loan at Norwich City in January 2014 after he found it hard to get back into the team following his treatment.

The Argentine international currently plays for Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga.

Gutierrez also put in claims of unfavorable treatment and another of harassment related to disability against Newcastle but both were dismissed.
