When Gaston Ramirez was given his marching orders just five minutes after the halftime break, it gave Spurs a massive boost down a goal, and they ended up with a dramatic winner from Christian Eriksen in the 90th minute.
Steve Bruce understood the red card, but offered a unique perspective on the decision to peg Hull back a man.
“The reason why the Barclays Premier League is the spectacle it is is the ferocity of it, and people enjoy the physical challenge of what the Barclays Premier League is. Listen, it’s an act of petulence, yes I can take that, but is it really violent conduct? I can’t say that it is.

“When you see it back, there’s only really the linesman who’s 20 yards away, and then he just ruins the spectacle as far as I’m concerned, and obviously it gives Tottenham a huge advantage, and they’ve punished us in the end.”
Laying on the ground after being dispossed, Ramirez was sent off for kicking into the back of Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen’s knees, and the Belgian collapsed under the heavy boot. Bruce wasn’t pleased with the conduct of Vertonghen, and barely caught himself before uttering a few dangerous words in the central defender’s direction.
"[Jan] Vertonghen, who’s...well...is supposed to be a top, top class player, has gone over like a...like...well, I won’t describe what I really think of why he’s gone over.”
