VIDEO - Pellegrini: “Nobody is the champion in December”

Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini was obviously a happy man in the postmatch press conference following a 3-0 win over second-place Southampton on the road.

While he remained focused on his own team and refused to be drawn into talk about Chelsea, Southampton, or even the referee at St. Mary’s, he did make one comment while discussing his team’s mountainous climb towards the top of the table.

“Nobody is the champion in December.”

With Chelsea unbeaten through 13 matches and sitting on 33 points, Manchester City climbed two closer today with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Southampton. While Saints still must figure out how to collect points off the top teams, City is looking to simply stay the course.

But there’s still plenty of season to go, and if the last few matches have told us anything, it’s that Sergio Aguero isn’t going to let Chelsea off easily. After a hat-trick two matches ago, Aguero picked up three assists today as Manchester City proved their dominance.

“This team is not just Aguero,” Pellegrini said. “He’s a very important player for us, but we have a style of play that is very good for him. The way we play he has a lot of chances to score, has a lot of chances to give good passes at the last minute because we are a very attacking team.”

Also, memo to Pellegrini, it’s still November for another few hours.
