As Manchester City beat Everton 3-1 at the Etihad, it wasn’t all good news for Manuel Pellegrini.

First Belgian defender Vincent Kompany limped off injured, as Manchester City’s captain was struggling for quite some time. The 27-year-old talisman has only recently returned from an early-season groin injury, and Kompany’s absence will hurt City if he’s out for too long.

It will be a nervous wait for fans of the Citizens over the international break, that’s for sure.

And in the second half City lost Serbian left back Aleksandar Kolarov after a heavy challenge. The 27-year-old wasn’t happy with the tackle and had to go off injured with Gael Clichy coming on in his place.

Even though City’s display going forward looked bright, at the back they looked suspect at times, but they ground out the 3-1 win.

A win is a win, and City deserved it. But a fresh batch of defensive injuries won’t help Pellegrini’s cause going forward.
