Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pele

In this Wednesday, April 2, 2014 photo, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, is interviewed at The Associated Press in New York. As soccer’s showcase returns to the land of “jogo bonito” (the beautiful game), Pele’s views are sought. He even has a new book, “Pele: Why Soccer Matters,” which was released this week by Celebra. Pele has a new book out, “Why Soccer Matters,” and is on a promotional tour in the United States. One of these stops was in New York City late last week to appear on"The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.

Stewart, you may know, played soccer at William & Mary and later spent time as a high school coach. He was pretty jazzed to have Pele on his show, and the Brazilian legend didn’t skimp on the stories nor the emotion.

The host had Pele talk about playing soccer with a makeshift balls as a kid in the hopes of being like his dad, Fluminese player Dondinho. He also relates the story of his father’s tears at Brazil losing the 1950 World Cup before bringing Stewart out of his seat with a gift.

It’s pretty cool.
