When Everton spent $47 million on Romelu Lukaku this summer, they were committing to the big Belgian for the foreseeable future.

With four goals in eight Premier League matches, Lukaku is on pace for a standout season at Goodison Park.

However, the striker is still only 21-years-old, and his inexperience was on display today when his errant back pass was intercepted and slotted past Tim Howard by Burnley striker Danny Ings to erase Everton’s 1-0 lead.

While a young player could become deflated after making a mistake like Lukaku’s, the Belgian international looked even more determined to earn three points for Everton.

After a scramble in the box, Lukaku fired home a loose ball to put Everton back ahead in the 29th minute.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez not only applauded Lukaku’s play, but also his mentality and ability to recover after making a mistake. Martinez also pointed out the influence Samuel Eto’o has had on Lukaku, bringing years of experience at some of the top clubs in the world.

At 33 years old, Samuel Eto’o is not a long term solution for Everton. Eto’o proved he is still a world-class striker after tallying twice against Burnley, but more important than his goals may be how he helps in the development of Romelu Lukaku.

If Lukaku develops into one of the premier strikers in the world, you can look back to his time spent alongside Samuel Eto’o as a key moment in his growth.
