Watford boss Flores: Rashford’s explosion “a product of everything around him”

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores says he has no special plans to slow down the sudden impact of young Marcus Rashford when the Hornets welcome Manchester United on Wednesday.

According to Flores, Rashford’s success has come from the form of his teammates. “We never plan for one individual player.” Flores said in his pre-match press conference. “He is a product of everything that is happening around him. He is scoring because Manchester United are playing well and putting plenty of balls into the box.”

After a Europa League brace on his Manchester United debut, Louis van Gaal trusted the 18-year-old striker with a Premier League start in a massive game and it paid off, scoring twice on just two shots in a 3-2 win over Arsenal.

“He looks good,” Flores said. “I love how he moves into the space, how he moves inside the box. He’s a very good player, a very good talent for English football and for Manchester United.”

But despite those praises, Watford will be playing Manchester United, not Marcus Rashford. The key to the win over Arsenal was a solid flow forward, using the flanks to their advantage. And with limited footage on the young striker, Flores just has to go on what he knows.

“With the younger players, when they are strong and quick, you sometimes need to open the door and say ‘go, you are ready’. At this moment, United have lots of injuries and it’s the moment for the younger players to take the opportunity to establish themselves.”
