It took just 13 minutes for Hull City to take a 2-0 lead over Manchester United. A bit of poor defensive work allowed James Chester to slip unmarked inside the area, getting on the end of a header from Alex Bruce to volley in the opener before five minutes were out. Then, in the 13th minute, the visitors were unable to clear a shot from David Meyler. After the loose ball pinged around inside the area, Jonny Evans got a foot to it. Unfortunately for United, he knocked it right past David De Gea.

But it didn’t take long for the visitors to respond. With Rafael limping, David Moyes took the initiative, sending Adnan Januzaj on in his place to add a bit of attack to his lineup. Credit to the United manager: it took just two minutes for the change to affect the game. Januzaj won a free kick on the right wing and Chris Smalling got his head on the end of Wayne Rooney’s free kick to put United within one.

By the 26th minute, Rooney himself put his side level. Again, Hull’s normally stoic defense came apart, and Curtis Davies could only knock the ball into Rooney’s path. The forward took it on the half-volley, sending in a swerving shot. The ball hit underneath the crossbar, falling behind Alan McGregor for the equalizer.

The goal was Rooney’s 150 Premier League strike for United, only Thierry Henry has scored more PL goals for one club. The landmark goal was fantastic and is sure to be amongst the best scored on Boxing Day.
