Muñoz was brought in to get some work despite the Mariners trailing by seven runs, and he faced just two batters before exiting with a trainer. The Mariners are calling the 27-year-old day-to-day, but it’s obviously plausible that the team will need to make a roster move if Muñoz is unavailable for the coming few days. Jose Ferrer and Eduardo Bazardo would likely see the save chances for Seattle.

Meyer punched out nine batters on the afternoon while scattering six hits and three walks. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single off the bat of Jake Mangum in the fourth inning. Meyer got 15 swings and misses on 105 pitches on the day, seven of those on his sweeper, while registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he carries a 7-0 record, 2.75 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 95/32 K/BB ratio (85 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Giants.

He’s expected to miss at least a month’s worth of action and as we have often seen with hamate bone injuries, his power may be impacted upon his return. The Royals didn’t confirm that he broke the bone on his fifth-inning swing, but that’s pretty much the only hamate injury there is. If it is a break, he’ll miss at least four-to-six weeks. John Rave or Josh Rojas could replace him on the roster. Rave makes more sense, since Jac Caglianone will likely play a lot of first base.

Schlittler gave up six hits and walked four batters, but still managed to limit Toronto’s lineup to just a third-inning solo homer by Kazuma Okamoto. The 25-year-old emerging ace has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 14 of his 15 starts this season. He’ll carry a favorable home outing against the Reds on Friday.

Skubal, making his first start in six weeks following his rapid recovery from elbow surgery, worked around a hit in the opening frame, striking out the final batter. The Guardians then brought an unearned run in to score on an error in the second. Daniel Schneemann took Skubal deep for a two-run blast in the third inning. Skubal would pitch into the fifth, leaving with two outs at 80 pitches, right at his pitch count goal for the day. Despite taking the loss on Saturday, perhaps the most important number of the day, just 38 days following surgery, was 97.8, his average fastball velocity. The 29-year-old left-hander will take a 2.81 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 49/7 K/BB ratio across 48 innings into a start against the White Sox in Detroit on Friday.

That’s always the fear when a player starts shaking his wrist after a swing. Ramírez tends to be a quick healer, but he will almost surely miss at least a month. The Guardians are about to get Gabriel Arias back and could put him in the mix along with Daniel Schneemann at third, but prospect Angel Genao could also be an option.

Yamamoto also retired the final 22 batters he faced against the Angels on Sunday, so he was working on a streak of 45 retired in a row until Mookie Betts booted a grounder with two outs in the eighth. Yamamoto got a groundout afterwards, but he gave up a homer to Tristan Peters to start the ninth. He then retired one more batter and was lifted at 109 pitches. Yamamoto was looking for his first MLB no-hitter after throwing two in Japan. The Dodgers’ last no-hitters were a combined effort in 2018 in which Walker Buehler started and went six innings and one from Clayton Kershaw in 2014. Yamamoto improved to 7-4 with a 2.52 ERA. He’ll get the Orioles next.

The homer, his 14th of the year, led off the game against Sean Burke. Ohtani didn’t show much enthusiasm on the bases today while playing through some knee soreness. It’s safe to say he won’t be a basestealing threat for at least a little while.

So, we’re going to get him some more testing in the next couple of days.” Ragans hasn’t pitched since May 6 and had a 4.84 ERA in eight starts before landing on the injured list for what was originally expected to be a minimal stay.
