Anthony DeSclafani O/U 4.5 Strikeouts vs. Giants

Anthony DeSclafani takes the mound for the Giants as they host the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies are winners in four of the last five games, but enter 0-6 on the road this season.

DeSclafani comes into this matchup ready for his second meeting with Colorado. In the first, he posted his best game of the season, striking out eight hitters, throwing 94 pitches and going 6.0 innings - all season-highs.

NBC’s model projects DeSclafani to record 5.0 strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. DeSclafani has recorded four or more strikeouts in all four starts this season but only two with five Ks.

DeSclafani is 1-0 (2.14 ERA) with three no-decisions on the season. DeSclafani has lasted at least 5.0 innings in three-of-four games, only lasting 4.0 on 68 pitches versus the Phillies. He allowed three earned runs, the most on the season after allowing two in three games.

The Rockies present a favorable opportunity for DeSclafani to earn five or more strikeouts. Colorado is hitting .209 (22nd) and struck out 61 times in six games compared to 14 walks and 11 runs on the road this year. Colorado is averaging a hair over 10 strikeouts per game on the road, a favorable number for a starting pitcher. [[ad:athena]]

Colorado’s 11 runs are the lowest in the MLB, so are the six road games played. DeSclafani’s only home game pitched this season was at home versus Colorado, another positive for the Over 4.5.

DeSclafani has faced the Rockies’ hitters 52 total times and they own a .162 batting average versus him. The hitters have struck out 15 times compared to 13 hits and only one home run.

DeSclafani has only allowed two homers this season on 335 pitches. As long as he avoids allowing a homer or a few runs in the first inning or two, DeSclafani should last at least 5.0 innings to earn his five strikeouts.

I will back the NBC model and the fact that DeSclafani has recorded at least four or more Ks in every game.

Pick: Anthony DeSclafani Over 4.5 Strikeouts (1u)
