Atlanta Hawks Regular Season Wins - 46.5 (Over -130) ( Under +110)
The Hawks enter the 2021 season full of optimism after their run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Trae Young is where it all starts. The Hawks point guard is a legit MVP candidate entering this season. Head coach Nate McMillian no longer has the interim in front of his title. Making McMillian the head coach was the best thing the Hawks did last season. From the time he took over the only team with a better record than the Hawks was the Phoenix Suns. Atlanta is a 50 win team in my book. Last season they did most of their damage without whom I consider their second best player De’Andre Hunter. This year a fully healthy Hawks team can flirt with the top of the Eastern Conference.
Edge: Over 46.5
Boston Celtics Regular Season Wins - 46.5 (Over-110) (Under -110)
The Boston Celtics qualified for the playoffs last season as the seventh seed in the East via the play-in tournament. Coming into this season the Celtics have a projected win total of a team with top of the East aspirations. This Celtics team is more like a play-in tournament team. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are both All-Star players outside of that the Celtics roster is average at best. The Celtics are more like a 42-44 win team. This is an easy play to the Under. Chicago Bulls Regular Season Wins - 41.5 (Over-167) (Under+125)
Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has something to work with as he starts his second season in the windy city. The Bulls possible starting lineup is very impressive. Lonzo Ball, Zach Levine, DeMar DeRozan, Patrick Williams and Nikola Vucevic. Preseason doesn’t mean much but the Bulls have looked very good in the early going. I think they are a 45-48 win team. PointsBet has the Bulls -160 to make the playoffs. You should hop all over that.
Edge: Over 41.5
Dallas Mavericks Regular Season Wins - 48.5 (Over -105) (Under -115)
I understand Luka Doncic is great and all but the Mavericks are not a 49 win team. If you think Dallas can win 49 games this season, bet Luka Doncic to win MVP at +400 on PointsBet. The Mavericks should finish the season in the middle of the West around a 45 win team. Doncic is great and could very well be the best player in the league. The rest of the Mavericks roster leaves a lot to be desired.
Edge: Under 48.5
Los Angeles Lakers Regular Season Wins - 52.5 (Over-110) (Under-110)
The Lakers retooled roster is not that impressive. LeBron James and Anthony Davis lead a team of veterans and younger up-start players. It will be interesting to see how Russell Westbrook and his empty stats fit on the Lakers roster. James still may be the best player and closer in the league but the health of his teammates will be a concern all season long. Winning 53 games is not important to the Lakers. James wants his team healthy next summer to make a deep playoff run.
Edge: Under 52.5
Memphis Grizzlies Regular Season Wins - 41.5 (Over -110) (Under-110)
I think the Grizzlies are in for a special season. Memphis won their way into the playoffs last season. They were very competitive vs. the Utah Jazz although they only won a single game in the series. Ja Morant is a legit All-Star in this league. Outside of Morant the Grizzlies have a solid deep roster full of scrappy players who contribute on a nightly basis. They are well coached by Taylor Jenkins. I think Memphis wins 43-45 games. I would put a few dollars on them to win the Southwest Division at +325 on PointsBet.
Edge: Over 41.5
Milwaukee Bucks Regular Season Wins - 54.5 (Over -115) (Under-105)
The Milwaukee Bucks toughed it out and got over the hump last season. That was all they needed. Now that the Bucks have been to the mountaintop they could stay up there for a while. Giannis Antetokounmpo is in his basketball prime and has the perfect pieces around him. The Bucks have already proved they can beat the Nets in a series. The rest of the league is chasing them. I can see the Bucks flirting with 60 wins this year.
Edge: Over 54.5
New Orleans Pelicans Regular Season Wins - 39.5 (Over -110) (Under-110)
Last season was a disappointing year for the Pelicans. They thought they would at least be in the play-in tournament. After one season in New Orleans former head coach Steve Van Gundy was replaced. The Pelicans have talent on the roster Zion Williamson is showing his skills and Brandon Ingram is a star. This offseason they added Devonte’ Graham and Jonas Valanciunas to go along with their other role players. Their biggest offseason move was hiring new head coach Willie Green. Green spent time on Steve Kerr’s staff in Golden State. Last season he was with Monte Williams in Phoenix. Safe to see he knows what it takes to win. I think the Pelicans squeak Over their win total and are in the play-in tournament this season.
Edge: Over 39.5
New York Knicks Regular Season Wins - 41.5 (Over -121) (Under +100)
The Knicks were one of the feel good stories of last year’s NBA season. The Garden was rocking once again as the Knicks made the playoffs without having to go through the play-in tournament. When they got to the playoffs they were beat soundly by a better team but it was good to see the Knicks back on the big stage. Just like any other team coached by Tom Thibodeau the Knicks played hard in every game. Thibs definitely built a culture. This season there is more talent to go along with hard play. Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier will join Julius Randle and Derrick Rose. The key to how far the Knicks go will rest on how much third year player RJ Barrett has improved. The Knicks should coast over 41 wins.
Edge: Over 41.5
Toronto Raptors Regular Season Wins - 35.5 (Over -120) (Under +100)
The Toronto Raptors are coming off a very poor season last year. They did not make the playoffs or play-in tournament. Pascal Siakam had a poor season and injuries to just about everyone on the roster really hindered Toronto. The Raptors main issue last season was not actually an on court issue. The Raptors played their home games from Tampa last season due to Covid-19 restrictions in Canada. This year Toronto will return back home. I think that will help them a lot. Kyle Lowry is gone now but the Raptors have a great mix of veterans who have been to the mountaintop and talented young players. The Raptors main asset is their head coach Nick Nurse. Nurse may be the best head coach in the NBA. He will see to it that the Raptors rebound this season. Toronto will easily surpass their Win Total. PointsBet has them at +230 to make the playoffs. I would run to the window to bet that.
Edge: Over 35.5
