The Knicks are sending Charlie Brown Jr., DaQuan Jeffries and Duane Washington Jr. to the Hornets in exchange for James Nnaji to complete the deal centered around Karl-Anthony Towns, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The Knicks and Hornets swapped some reserves in order to complete the deal that sent KAT to New York and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo back to Minnesota. These guys help complete the deal, but there is no fantasy impact whatsoever here.
  • NBA Small Forward #16
Charlie Brown Jr. played 30 minutes in Friday’s 97-89 win over the Celtics, scoring 27 points (10-of-16 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, one block, and five 3-pointers.
Brown has been the Knicks’ best player in Las Vegas and by a fairly wide margin. The free-agent wing, who was waived by the 76ers in October, plied his trade in the G League last season. Brown may not be a power forward, which is the position where the Knicks need additional depth in the aftermath of the Obi Toppin trade, but his performances may be too good to ignore. At a minimum, he’s made a good case for himself to score a training camp invite, be it with the Knicks or another NBA team.
  • NBA Small Forward #16
Charlie Brown Jr. shot 8-of-15 from the field and 0-of-1 from the foul line in Wednesday’s 82-80 win over the Magic, scoring 19 points with six rebounds, two assists, one steal, four blocks, and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes.
The Knicks don’t have any stars on their summer roster, which has opened the door for some unheralded prospects to make a name for themselves. Brown, who has prior NBA experience, would fit the bill, and he has been the Knicks’ best player in Las Vegas. He was impactful on both ends of the floor on Wednesday, with his first-half production keeping New York within striking distance. Finishing the week strong could be enough to get Brown a training camp invite, be it from the Knicks or another team.
  • NBA Small Forward #16
Charlie Brown Jr. logged 31 minutes in Saturday’s 110-101 loss to Philadelphia, finishing with 17 points (7-of-13 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one blocked shot.
Brown was one of the Knicks’ better performers in the team’s summer league opener, and the absence of first-round picks may open the door for a player like him to earn a training camp invite. He’s appeared in 41 NBA games over two seasons, spending the 2022-23 campaign with the 76ers’ G League affiliate. Brown’s unlikely to impact fantasy basketball next season, but games like the one he had on Saturday will go a long way toward ensuring him another opportunity to earn a roster spot in the fall.
  • The Sixers are waiving swingman Charlie Brown Jr.
They decided to convert Michael Foster Jr.'s camp deal into a two-way contract and it looks like Brown is the odd man out.

  • Despite a loss to the Bulls on Saturday, Charlie Brown led the Sixers in scoring with 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting (7-of-7 FTs), also adding three rebounds, four assists, one steal, two treys and five turnovers in 28 minutes.
Brown has seen NBA action since 2019, but he’s only made it through 41 games at the professional level (and with four different teams), so we can’t get too excited. Reigning G League MVP Trevelin Queen has looked good this SL but really struggled with his stroke tonight, hitting just 6-of-19 shots and missing all ten of his triples for a 16/6/4 line with seven giveaways, and he’s the guy out of the pair to at least keep an eye on for fantasy purposes. Philly’s scoring was pretty well-rounded tonight with five guys reaching double figures, highlighted by Grant Riller’s continued solid play that saw him go for 19 efficient points and three triples on Saturday.

  • GSW Center-Forward #28
Charles Bassey hit 7-of-12 shots for 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals in 26 minutes of Wednesday’s 86-82 Summer League win over the Jazz.
This game had about a quarter of the intrigue the Thunder-Grizzlies game had earlier in the night, but Bassey looked great and had a dunk that should be featured in highlight reels. Trevelin Queen added 15 points, 3-pointer and two steals, Myles Powell had 13 points, four steals and three triples in just 17 minutes, Charlie Brown Jr. added 12 points and two steals in 19 minutes, and Cassius Winston had 11 points on 2-of-10 shooting in a start. Bassey is worth keeping an eye on but this SL lineup doesn’t offer much fantasy intrigue.

  • DET Forward #7
Paul Reed started and hit 8-of-15 shots and a 3-pointer for 20 points, 15 rebounds and four steals in Tuesday’s 103-99 Summer League loss to the Grizzlies.
Many of us expected for Reed to get more minutes last season (he averaged just 8.0 minutes a game with 3.1 points) but it just didn’t happen. It’s clear he can play and while he won’t be a fantasy target on draft night, he will be worth keeping an eye on, especially once the Sixers start piling up injuries next year. Isaiah Joe scored 19 points with a fun stat line, Jaden Springer and Charlie Brown Jr. both scored 15 and Grant Riller scored 12 points.

  • POR Guard-Forward #4
Tyrese Maxey, Furkan Korkmaz, Matisse Thybulle, Tobias Harris, and Joel Embiid will start Tuesday’s game against the Pelicans.
Thybulle is back in action after missing five games due to a sprained right shoulder, and this has the potential to be a very good matchup for him. New Orleans is down its top two wings in Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, which lends itself towards Thybulle being able to fly around the court even more on the defensive end of the floor. Managers in need of defensive stats should already have him on their radar. Charlie Brown returns to the bench and isn’t worth the trouble fantasy-wise.

  • Charlie Brown scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting Sunday, to go with four rebounds, one assist, two steals and zero turnovers through 27 minutes as a starter.
Brown saw just 17 minutes of action in his previous start with Philly, but he matched that minutes total by halftime tonight, and didn’t miss any of his shots through the first half of action while also nabbing two steals. Unfortunately, he missed all three of his second-half shots, and while he got off to a solid start, he finished with a fairly forgettable stat line.
