Charles McAdoo goes deep off Sonny Gray in win

The 27-year-old slugger was held out of Saturday’s lineup due to tightness in his lower back. There haven’t been any rumblings yet of Guerrero requiring a stint on the injured list, though that could change if this lingers into next week. Charles McAdoo will start in his place at first base and will bat ninth for the Jays against Will Warren and the Yankees on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

Guerrero’s stunning power outage has lingered until almost midseason as he’s recorded just three round-trippers through 68 games this season after eclipsing 30 homers in three of the last five years. The 27-year-old franchise cornerstone receives some time off to address a lower back issue after hitting .184 (7-for-38) with three RBI across 10 games since the start of June. He was hitting .250/.356/.436 at Buffalo this year, coming over from the Pirates in a deadline Isiah Kiner-Falefa trade in 2024. He’ll have a chance to play Lenyn Sosa off the roster while Sosa is on IL with a wrist contusion, but isn’t in the Thursday starting lineup.
