Mariners sent LHP Jhonathan Díaz outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Díaz went unclaimed on waivers after being jettisoned from Seattle’s 40-man roster to make room for top prospect Kade Anderson over the weekend. The 29-year-old southpaw made one relief appearance for the Mariners during a brief stint in the big leagues. He has the ability to elect free agency, but will probably stick around to finish out the year at Triple-A Tacoma.

Astros manager Joe Espada hasn’t had any conversations with anyone in the organization regarding his future, according to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

Espada is entering the final five weeks of his expiring contract with the Astros. All signs point to him managing through the end of the season, but his tenure at the helm in Houston appears to be over. The Astros parted ways with general manager Dana Brown earlier on Monday and the incoming head of baseball operations will probably want to choose their own manager. He’s gone 255-238 (.517) during three seasons with the Astros since 2024.

Max Meyer (neck) has yet to start a throwing progression.

Meyer is running out of time to start ramping up again after hitting the shelf with a neck strain just before last month’s All-Star break. The 27-year-old received a cortisone injection earlier this month. It seems unlikely he’ll make it back as a starter before the regular season wraps up, but there’s always a chance he could pitch in relief. He can be safely dropped in shallow fantasy leagues since it appears highly unlikely he’ll make any sort of impact over the final five weeks.

Riley Greene (hamstring) has started a running progression.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Greene isn’t back to running at full speed yet, but he’s been ramping up from a physical standpoint recently. The 25-year-old middle-of-the-order force hit the injured list with a hamstring strain back on August 12. He remains without a definitive return timetable, but figures to make it back to Detroit at some point in early September. The Tigers have gone just 2-9 overall since he landed on the injured list.

Orioles RHP Albert Suárez elected free agency.

There’s a chance Suárez winds up back with Baltimore on a new deal in the coming days. The 36-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week. He’s posted a respectable 3.93 ERA across 55 innings of work for the Orioles this season.

Marlins activated 1B/OF Kyle Stowers from the 10-day injured list.

Stowers is at first base and hitting third for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox after missing just over two weeks with a left hamstring strain. The 28-year-old has hit just .242/.327/.462 with 44 runs scored, 16 homers, 52 RBI and one steal across 399 plate appearances this season. He figures to spend the majority of the final five weeks at the cold corner for Miami.

Marlins optioned 1B/3B Deyvison De Los Santos to Triple-A Jacksonville.

De Los Santos heads back to the minors with Kyle Storwers coming off the injured list for Monday’s game against the Red Sox. The power-hitting 23-year-old prospect was up for just a pair of contests over the weekend. He went 1-for-2 at the plate during his latest abbreviated stint at the highest level.

Gleyber Torres is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rays.

It appears to be a routine day off with sizzling-hot rookie Hao-Yu Lee taking over at the keystone. Torres is hitting .256 (21-for-82) with three homers and 12 RBI in 20 games since the start of August.

Tigers signed RHP Tyler Kinley to a one-year contract.

Kinley heads to the Motor City after being cut loose by Atlanta last week. The 35-year-old reliever has posted a serviceable 4.01 ERA across 42 2/3 innings this season. He’ll fortify Detroit’s middle relief depth for the final five weeks of the year.

Tigers optioned RHP Ty Madden to Triple-A Toledo.

Madden returns to the minors to free up a spot on Detroit’s roster for veteran reliever Tyler Kinley. The 26-year-old has operated in a swingman-type capacity, making 17 appearances, including one start. He’s posted a respectable 3.46 ERA across 39 innings of work. He still has minor league options left, which is why he drew the short straw in a roster crunch.
