It’s unclear how much time Marte is going to miss at the moment, but it doesn’t sound like his return is imminent, which means fantasy managers should brace for the possibility that his absence stretches beyond a few days. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days.

McGonigle’s home run was his 13th of the year. He hit a two-run shot off Carmen Mlodzinski in the second inning. McGonigle now has three home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games in August after hitting four home runs with nine RBI in 23 games in July. He’s hitting .282 with an .810 OPS and 50 RBI this season.

The 27-year-old right-hander was pretty good as a starting pitcher earlier this season, but in this most recent stint in the rotation he’s allowed 13 earned runs in 8 1/3 innings over three starts (14.44 ERA). Mlodzinski has thrown 63, 59 and 59 pitches in those starts, making it hard to see him working deep into games until the Pirates allow for a higher pitch count. Mlodzinski is lined up to face the Dodgers on the road on Sunday.

Valdez gave up five hits, walked four and struck out five. He improved to 8-8 on the season. One unearned run scored in the fifth inning on a throwing error by second baseman Hao-Yu Lee. With one on and two outs in the sixth inning, Valdez issued back-to-back walks and a bases-clearing double to Nick Yorke, who also scored after Valdez was removed from the game. Valdez has a 4.35 ERA in what has mostly been a disappointing first season with the Tigers. He’s lined up to face the Royals on the road on Sunday.

McLean didn’t really deserve this win, but he can thank his outfielders. Carson Benge threw runners out at home on back-to-back singles in the first inning, and then A.J. Ewing cut down Xander Bogaerts at home in the second. That sequence saw seven consecutive batters reach base against McLean over the two innings, but just one run scored. McLean cleaned it up from there, allowing just one single and two walks over the remaining four innings. He’s now 9-8 with a 3.34 ERA, and he’s due to face the White Sox next.
