Spencer Miles tossed two scoreless innings with one strikeout in a no-decision against the Royals on Wednesday.

After making a few spot starts and bulk outings earlier on this season, Miles was shuttled back to the bullpen full-time in July and hadn’t pitched more than a single inning in eight straight appearances until this one. He didn’t get a single whiff and pitched from behind for a good chunk of this start, but got the six outs the Blue Jays asked him to. He now has a 2.95 ERA in what’s been a stellar season for the swing-man and he should get another chance next week on the road against the Guardians, just don’t expect much bulk as he continues to build himself back up.

Spencer Miles tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout to earn a win in relief against the Yankees on Saturday.

Braydon Fisher opened the bullpen game for the Blue Jays with a scoreless first inning before turning it over to Tiedemann in the second. Tiedemann surrendered a run on two hits in the inning and recorded two outs in the third. Simeon Woods Richardson took over from there and gave the Blue Jays 2 1/3 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Later in the game, Spencer Miles tossed a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout before falling in line for a win.

Spencer Miles tossed a scoreless ninth against the Red Sox for his first major league save Tuesday.

The Jays weren’t going to use Louis Varland or Tyler Rogers tonight, but that posed no problem, as Chase Lee, Brendon Little, Braydon Fisher and Miles combined to pitch four scoreless innings in relief. Miles, getting his first chance to close, pitched for the third time in four days. Because of concerns about his workload, it looks like the Jays are going to let him finish out his rookie season as a short reliever instead of considering him as a rotation replacement for Trey Yesavage or Jameson Taillon.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Blue Jays are open to trading Spencer Miles.

Miles is a Rule 5 pick who has put together a solid season for the Blue Jays this year with a 3.26 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 66/19 K/BB ratio in 69 innings across 29 appearances (four starts). The Blue Jays have used him as a bulk reliever, but he has allowed 14 runs on 20 hits in 14 innings across four starts as a traditional starter. If another team sees Miles as a potential starting pitcher who has not yet even reached his arbitration years, a deal could come together.

Max Scherzer, out since mid-June with back and thumb issues, will come off the IL and start Monday’s game against the Nationals.

The original plan was for Scherzer to make another rehab start, but he lobbied to return early. With Scherzer back, Spencer Miles will head to the pen for now, though that could be temporary. Scherzer doesn’t seem like a mixed-league option at this point.

Max Scherzer said Friday that he’d like to rejoin the Blue Jays rotation without making another rehab start.

Scherzer threw a bullpen session Friday. He pitched five scoreless innings for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, but since that took him only 56 pitches, the thinking was that he’d make one more rehab start. If he’s activated, it would likely be to face the Nationals on Monday. Spencer Miles would be put back in middle relief, but that might be very temporary with the Blue Jays seemingly in line to sell at the deadline.

Spencer Miles allowed six earned runs over four innings while striking out four, picking up the loss on Friday against the White Sox.

After retiring the side in order in the first inning, Miles got knocked around by the White Sox in the second inning. Three straight hits to start the inning, followed by a fielder’s choice by Braden Montgomery that drove in Andrew Benintendi, put the White Sox up 2-0, and a two-run homer by Sam Antonacci a few batters later extended their lead to 5-0. It was only the fourth start of the season for Miles, who got the nod as the opener coming out of the All-Star break, but this was his worst outing of the season regardless of when he entered the game. He’ll likely be moved back to the bullpen rather than start another game next week.

Spencer Miles allowed two runs with one strikeout over four innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Tuesday.

Miles got his first start since May 31 after pitching out of the bullpen over the last month. He went four innings against the Giants, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks. He struck out one. Miles would depart after the fourth at 55 pitches. The 25-year-old right-hander holds a 2.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a 56/17 K/BB ratio across 58 innings. He’ll likely revert to a long-relief role following the All-Star break with Max Scherzer nearing a return.

Miles will get his third start of the season after tossing three shutout innings Wednesday against the Metts. The 25-year-old will likely go no more than five innings in the outing, and there would be just as much risk as there is reward in using him as a streamer in that contest.

Spencer Miles tossed three shutout innings with five strikeouts, one walk, and allowed one hit on his way to the win against the Mets on Wednesday.

Miles was very impressive here despite only going three innings on 46 pitches. Both his fastball and sinker sat between 97 and 98 mph and the latter flashed some impressive movement. His curveball flashed too and he was willing to throw it against hitters from both sides of the plate. There was enough here to make us think about adding him in very deep leagues. Otherwise, Patrick Corbin followed him as more of a bulk reliever going five innings, allowing three runs, and earning the save. With a 5.11 ERA, he should not be on our radar.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Patrick Corbin has been moved to the bullpen.

Schneider told reporters it’ll likely be rookie Spencer Miles getting the ball for a bullpen game in place of Corbin, who was originally scheduled to start Wednesday’s series finale against the Mets. The 36-year-old veteran has pitched to a cromulent 5.09 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 52/24 K/BB ratio across 69 innings over 15 starts this season. His rotation spot will likely go to Max Scherzer (back) once he’s ready to come off the injured list in a few weeks.

The versatile 27-year-old served as the Mets’ designated hitter in this one. He delivered a run-scoring single off of Jacob Misiorowski in the fifth inning that pulled the Mets to within three runs at 5-2, that would be as close as they would get though. For the season, he’s slashing a pitiful .167/.235/.205 with zero homers and two RBI in 85 plate appearances between the Mets and Marlins.

The Brewers jumped on him early in this one, scoring twice in the first inning and adding another pair in the second on a two-run blast by Jackson Chourio. They tacked on additional runs in the fifth and sixth while chasing Manaea. The 34-year-old southpaw got seven swings and misses on 95 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to bounce back and improve upon his 4.55 ERA and 1.32 WHIP when he does battle against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Jac Caglianone had a monster day at the dish in Thursday’s 13-2 thrashing of the Blue Jays, going 5-for-6 with a homer, double, three runs scored and six RBI.

Caglianone singled in the first inning and was left stranded. He then smacked a two-run single in the second that extended the Royals’ early lead to 4-0. The 23-year-old slugger added an RBI single in the sixth and rode home on Vinnie Pasquantino’s two-run shot. He then doubled in the eighth and scored on an RBI single by Pasquantino before crushing a 409-foot two-run shot of his own off of Myles Straw in the ninth inning. With the monstrous performance, he’s now hitting an impressive .282/.332/.500 with 23 homers and 66 RBI on the season.

Aside from that, the 27-year-old southpaw was brilliant. He got 11 whiffs on 81 offerings on the night, registering a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he brings a 3.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 131/48 K/BB ratio (149 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Marlins.
