Ernie Clement went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI against the Royals on Friday.

Clement’s two-run double in the first inning was his 30th double of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead 4-0 early. A year ago, he had 35 doubles and nine home runs compared to his 30 doubles and nine home runs already this year. Clement is hitting .276 with a .690 OPS and 46 RBI.

Ethan Salas is at catcher and hitting seventh for Game 1 of the NLDS against the Brewers on Saturday.

Salas earns his second consecutive nod behind the plate as the Padres kick off a best-of-five matchup against a powerhouse Brewers squad. The 20-year-old prodigy, who is a revelation from a defensive standpoint, has gone 1-for-2 with an RBI in the postseason. Here’s the full lineup: Fernando Tatis Jr. (RF), Dustin Harris (LF), Manny Machado (3B), Ty France (1B), Jackson Merrill (CF), Xander Bogaerts (SS), Salas (C), Luis Campusano (DH) and Jake Cronenworth (2B).

White Sox manager Will Venable told reporters Sean Burke will play a role in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Guardians.

Venable declined to name a Game 2 starter, but went out of his way to state that Burke will play a large role. The 26-year-old struck out eight and allowed three solo homers over four innings in his playoff debut against the Astros earlier this week. It’s possible Chicago decides to throw out an opener ahead of Burke, but he’s going to play a large role in their Game 2 showdown on Monday.

Luis Lara is in right field and hitting seventh in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres on Saturday.

The biggest development here is Lara getting the nod in right field with Jake Bauers at the cold corner over Andrew Vaughn. It doesn’t come as a surprise to see Bauers in the lineup, but the widely-held assumption was that he would be their primary right fielder in the postseason. It’s basically Lara getting the nod over Andrew Vaughn to face Padres lefty Robbie Ray. Here’s the full lineup: Jackson Chourio (LF), Brice Turang (2B), William Contreras (C), Bauers (1B), Christian Yelich (DH), Cooper Pratt (SS), Lara (RF), Garrett Mitchell (CF) and Joey Ortiz.

Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) confirmed the World Series would be the earliest he could return.

There hasn’t been any official clarity from either the Brewers or Woodruff after he underwent followup imaging on his shoulder in late September. The 33-year-old has been cleared to resume throwing and is presumably ramping up his pitch count and stamina in an effort to contribute if Milwaukee makes a deep postseason run.

Colson Montgomery picked up an RBI double in Game 1 of the ALDS against the White Sox on Saturday.

Montgomery went the other way against the shift, and Kyle Teel was able to beat out a throw at the plate to give Chicago a 3-0 lead. Montgomery has driven in a pair of runs and hit .333/.455/.778 in his three postseason games.

Grant Taylor threw four scoreless innings to earn a save in Game 1 off the ALDS against the Guardians on Tuesday.

Taylor’s curveball was simply dominant, and he was able to punch out six over those four innings while allowing only two hits. The right-hander threw 42 pitches after firing 54 of them in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the Astros on Tuesday. The White Sox have a day off Sunday, so there’s a chance he could be available for Game 2 come Monday. More than likely, he doesn’t work again until Game 3.

Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run homer to lead the White Sox to a 3-0 win over the Guardians on Saturday in Game 1 of the ALDS.

Parker Messick left a breaking-ball near the eyes of Murakami, and he took advantage with a moonshot off the left-hander that gave the White Sox a 2-0 lead and Murakami his first ever postseason homer. It traveled an estimated 440 feet with an exit velocity of 112.1 mph. The 26-year-old also singled and has forged a .273/.308/.545 slash in his first three playoff contests. Chicago now has a 1-0 lead in the series, and will look to steal another game in Cleveland on Monday after a day off.

Hagen Smith worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Guardians on Saturday.

Smith struck out four, and he was able to work around three free passes while not allowing a hit. In his two playoff appearances, the 23-year-old has yet to allow a run, and he’s shown why he has the stuff to someday be an upper-echelon fantasy starter. He threw 51 pitches in this contest, so he could be a multi-inning option for Game 3 or 4 — if necessary — in Chicago.

Parker Messick gave up two runs in his 4 1/3 innings to take a loss to the White Sox in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday.

Messick was able to get out of a few jams thanks in large part to his six strikeouts, but a poorly located breaking ball to Munetaka Murakami was shellacked out of the park, and the Chicago offense provided nothing while was in the game. Messick pitched well after, and should Cleveland force such a game, he likely will be on the mound for Game 4 of the ALCS.

Chandler Simpson is starting in left field Saturday in Game 1 against the Yankees.
