Yankees recalled RHP Colter Bean from Triple-A Columbus.
Bean, one of the better relievers in the minors over the last few years, is in the majors for a second time after posting a 1.69 ERA and striking out 33 in 26 2/3 innings for Columbus. The Yankees have no faith in him at all, but he should be of some use in middle relief while he’s up.

Jonathan India is not in Kansas City’s starting lineup against the White Sox on Friday.
Michael Massey will get his second start of the season against RHP Davis Martin. This appears to just be a routine day off for India, as Massey’s first start after coming off IL was actually in left field.
'No one can touch' Miller right now
James Schiano outlines just how impressive Mason Miller has been for the Padres.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #39
Aaron Ashby will open for the Brewers against the Nationals on Friday.
Chad Patrick will be the follower against Washington and be (much more likely) to be in line for the win. This is generally good news for Patrick. Ashby should probably be pulled in shallow leagues with daily transactions as he stands little chance of garnering a win.
  • AZ Right Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll (hip) is not in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Phillies.
Torey Lovullo said that Carroll missed Thursday’s game with a sore left hip flexor. He remains out tonight with no update from Louvllo at the moment. Carroll should be regarded as day-to-day unless we get a stronger statement from the Diamondbacks in the next 48 hours.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #54
Lucas Giolito said he’s waiting to sign for “close to what my value is.”
Giolito says he’s maintained a pitch count around 75 while working out on his own this offseason. By far the biggest name starting pitcher not signed this offseason, Giolito was 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 26 starts with the Red Sox in 2025. It’s remained surprising that nobody has met his asking price (or close to it) yet. He describes it as a situation where talks “seem like they’re heating up” and then fizzle out.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #62
Reds recalled RHP Kyle Nicolas from Triple-A Louisville.
Nicolas was acquired from the Pirates about a week ago and had a 10.80 ERA in two appearances with the Bats. He managed a 4.74 ERA in 31 appearances in the bigs last year and will replace Jose Franco as one of Cincinnati’s low-leverage relievers for the time being.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #74
Reds optioned RHP Jose Franco to Triple-A Louisville.
Franco is carrying a 3.18 ERA in three appearances, but threw 31 pitches on Tuesday and 43 pitches on Thursday, so the Reds will opt for a fresh arm in the short term as the back-end bullpen shuffle commences.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #68
Rays recalled LHP Joe Rock from Triple-A Durham.
Rock is carrying an unsightly 19.29 ERA in the early going at Triple-A Durham, but had a 2.35 ERA in three appearances for the Rays last year. He’s here to soak up innings if necessary before Drew Rasmussen is activated tomorrow.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman #5
Brandon Lowe is not in Pittsburgh’s starting lineup on Friday against the Cubs.
That’s two starts in a row off for Lowe against left-handers, though one imagines he may be called on to pinch-hit later in the game. Nick Gonzales is batting fifth against LHP Shota Imanaga and the Cubs.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #39
Cubs recalled RHP Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa.
Roberts has one scoreless appearance for the Cubs this year and a 2.08 ERA in three games with Triple-A Iowa. After a strong spring training, perhaps Phil Maton’s injury is a window for him to establish himself enough at the big-league level to move beyond up/down reliever status. We shall see.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #88
Cubs placed Phil Maton on the 10-day injured list with right knee tendinitis.
Maton had appeared in five games for the Cubs to date, allowing six earned runs and walking four batters while allowing one home run. Ethan Roberts will take over a low-leverage role in the Cubs pen in his stead.
