Brian Bannister (hamstring) surrendered four runs -- three earned -- and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Thursday in his rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk.
Bannister has been roughed up in both of his starts since he was moved up to Triple-A to continue his rehab. With Mike Pelfrey on the DL, Bannister is next in line for a rotation spot should anything happen to a Mets starter. However, the team would have to look elsewhere if Bannister doesn’t improve over his next couple of outings.

Francisco Alvarez (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse.
It’s a bit unclear how much time Alvarez will need to ramp up after making a speedy recovery from last month’s surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, which was expected to sideline him for roughly 6-8 weeks. It sounds like there’s a chance he’s back in New York’s lineup at some point in early-to-mid June.
Reynolds putting together a solid season
Bryan Reynolds has been heating up as of late, with the two-time All-Star proving he still has plenty left in the tank for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #65
Landen Roupp (back) will make his next start on Saturday against the Cubs.
Giants manager Tony Vitello downplayed any concern that Roupp would miss his next start after dealing with back tightness during Monday’s implosion against the Brewers where he coughed up eight runs over four innings. There’s plenty of reason to believe that Roupp will rebound if he’s back on track from a physical standpoint this weekend.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #30
Edward Cabrera (blister) will be activated from the injured list to start Saturday’s game against the Giants.
Cabrera resumed throwing last week and will get the ball this weekend against San Francisco after missing just over two weeks with a blister issue. The 28-year-old has struggled to a pedestrian 4.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 47/20 K/BB ratio across 54 innings over 10 starts to kick off his Cubs debut. He’s immensely talented and is at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats based on his sky-high upside if everything clicks into place.
  • AZ Shortstop #2
Geraldo Perdomo is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers.
Perdomo went 0-for-3 during Monday’s series opener at Chase Field, leaving him with a .221 batting average with three homers, 21 RBI and eight steals through 56 games. It’s a noticeable difference from last year’s 20-homer, 100-RBI, 27-steal breakthrough campaign where he also hit .290 across 161 games and delivered first-round fantasy value. The hope for Arizona and fantasy managers is that a mental reset enables Perdomo to get back on track. It’ll be rookie Jose Fernandez at shortstop on Tuesday night against Los Angeles.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Astros manager Joe Espada said Jose Altuve (oblique) will take live batting practice this week.
There’s a chance Altuve is ready to jump back into Houston’s lineup without needing a minor league rehab assignment. The 36-year-old veteran has made a lightning-quick recovery from an oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in mid-May. Additional clarity on his status should arrive later this week.
  • ATH Right Fielder #26
Carlos Cortes is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Cubs.
Cortes continues to receive opportunities atop the Athletics’ lineup against right-handed starters. He was moved to the top of the order back in mid-May and hasn’t looked back, hitting .273 (9-for-33) with one homer and a 4/10 K/BB ratio in 11 games since May 18.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #2
Nico Hoerner is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Athletics.
Hoerner draws his second consecutive start as Chicago’s table-setter, this time against Athletics top prospect Gage Jump, after moving back up for Sunday’s series finale against the Cardinals. The 29-year-old speedster has been stuck in a rut at the dish recently, hitting .208 (25-for-120) with zero homers and four steals over his last 30 games, Pete Crow-Armstrong is hitting second once again after mostly batting leadoff since late May.
  • SF Designated Hitter #8
Bryce Eldridge is on the bench for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.
Eldridge went 6-for-11 with a home run during a three-game series against the Rockies over the weekend. The 21-year-old predictably takes a seat against southpaw Kyle Harrison, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He figures to continue playing everyday against right-handed pitching and offers some appeal in deeper mixed leagues based on his immense power production and path to regular at-bats.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton is in center field for Tuesday’s showdown against the White Sox.
Buxton is back patrolling center field for the first time since May 23. It’s just his second time in the field since missing five games with a hip issue last month. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart has homered five times in his last 15 games and has 17 round-trippers through just 51 games.
  • CWS Right Fielder #25
Derek Hill (back) is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Twins.
Hill returns following a three-game absence due to a lingering back issue that surfaced last Friday. The 30-year-old is in center field and hitting sixth against Minnesota rookie lefty Connor Prielipp on Tuesday night at Target Field.
