Michael Garciaparra went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI yesterday, giving him seven RBI in five games in the AFL.
He’s 9-for-21, though the double is his only extra-base hit to date. Nomar’s little brother showed some real potential for the first time while hitting .311/.399/.397 in 257 at-bats this year. He was at .316/.422/.375 in his 136 at-bats for Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners will likely add him to their 40-man roster this winter.

Cubs claimed RHP Christian Roa off waivers from the Orioles; optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.
Roa is on to his fourth organization of the year. He got into seven games with the Astros earlier this season, posting a 5.19 ERA.
Sheets jumps on first pitch to put Padres up early
Gavin Sheets jumps all over George Kirby's first-pitch fastball to put the Padres up early over the Mariners on Sunday Night Baseball at T-Mobile Park.

Gunnar Henderson went 4-for-5 with a homer, double and two RBI on Sunday afternoon, leading the Orioles to a 7-3 victory over the Nationals.
Henderson got the party started in the top half of the first inning with a 397-foot (106.7 mph EV) solo shot off of Richard Lovelady. He then capped off the scoring in the contest with an RBI single in the ninth. His bat has started to show signs of life, raising his season slash to .214/.269/.423 to go along with 10 homers, 24 RBI and six stolen bases.
  • BAL Center Fielder #17
Colton Cowser went 1-for-4 and belted his first home run of the season as the Orioles triumphed over the Nationals on Sunday afternoon in Washington.
Cowser connected on a 394-foot (113.3 mph EV) two-run shot off of Miles Mikolas in the fourth inning that increased the Orioles’ advantage to 6-1. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the day. He has had a very rough go at the plate, slashing .173/.269/.235 with just the one home run and nine RBI in 94 plate appearances.

Brandon Young wasn’t at his best in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday, giving up two runs on five hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
Young also issued three free passes on the day while striking out three. He served up a solo homer to Jacob Young in the second inning, then the Nationals scratched out another run while chasing him in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old righty generated 11 whiffs on 70 pitches in the game — six of those on his heater — while posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll carry a 4.25 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 22/14 K/BB ratio (29 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Tigers.
  • WSH Center Fielder #30
Jacob Young went 1-for-2 and swatted a solo home run as the Nationals fell to the Orioles on Sunday afternoon in Washington.
The 26-year-old outfielder got the Nats on the board in the second inning with a 390-foot (103.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Brandon Young. On the season, he’s now slashing .224/.275/.353 with five homers, 21 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 168 plate appearances.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #36
Miles Mikolas struggled in a bulk role against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon, giving up four runs on six hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.
The veteran right-hander punched out four batters in the contest while allowing just one base on balls. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball as Coby Mayo took him deep in the second inning and Colton Cowser got him for a two-run blast in the fourth. Mikolas got five swings and misses on 93 pitches in the ballgame, posting an underwhelming CSW of 23 percent. He’ll try to improve upon a disappointing 6.91 ERA and 1.49 WHIP when he takes on the Braves in Atlanta on Friday.
  • AZ Right Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll launched his sixth and seventh homers as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 8-6 on Sunday.
Carroll didn’t need Coors Field’s help on 112- and 103-mph homers today. He also walked and scored a third run in the contest. It’s his ninth career two-homer game and first of 2025 after he had four last season. Carroll is hitting .278/.390/.543, placing him 11th in MLB with a .933 OPS.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #34
Michael Soroka yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings and struck out eight Sunday against the Rockies.
After giving up eight runs to the Brewers on April 30, Soroka has allowed three runs over 18 1/3 innings in three starts this month. His schedule has been on the easier side during a start to the year that has seen him go 6-2 with a 3.49 ERA, but his 55/14 K/BB in 49 innings is nice. It’s just a matter if he can stay healthy, as he hasn’t put in a full season since 2019. He’ll be a nice play with a home start against these same Rockies on the schedule for next weekend.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Sewald protected a two-run lead in the ninth for his 10th save Sunday against the Rockies.
Sewald walked one but retired the other three batters he faced in a bounce-back outing. He gave up three runs to take a blown save and a loss Wednesday against the Rangers. That’s his only blown save in 11 tries to date.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #24
Michael Lorenzen was tagged for seven runs — six earned — in 4 2/3 innings by the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Lorenzen allowed nine hits, walked three and struck out five. At 2-6 with a 7.03 ERA, he might be in danger of being bumped into middle relief at some point here, though the Chase Dollander injury takes some pressure off. Lorenzen is due to face the Diamondbacks again next weekend in Arizona.
