Savery was recalled to take the place of Cliff Lee, who was put on the disabled list Saturday. Savery may replace Kyle Kendrick as the long reliever in the bullpen, with Kendrick assuming Lee’s spot in the rotation.

Miller will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Astros and then, reportedly, enter into a piggyback situation with Luis Castillo. Miller has been up to 61 pitches in his last rehab start, so he could perhaps get to 70-75 today against the Astros, which makes him tough to rely on in fantasy leagues. His future value is also clouded by his potential role. If he is the opening pitcher in a piggyback situation with Castillo, that could limit Miller’s chances of wins and crush a lot of his fantasy value.

With Dylan Beavers (oblique) landing on the injured list, the Orioles will call up Handley to serve as the backup catcher, meaning Samuel Basallo will remain primarily a designated hitter.

This felt like a possibility after the news earlier today that Beavers had an MRI on his oblique. It’s unfortunate timing since Beavers was starting to play more often, and it could open the door for Colton Cowser or Heston Kjerstad (hamstring), currently rehabbing in Triple-A, to push for a starting job in the outfield.

Pomeranz pitched on Tuesday and allowed one run (unearned) on one hit while also walking one. Something must not have felt right during or after the appearance because he’s now going on the injured list. We’ll wait to hear more about his possible timeline for return.

Johnson was put on the injured list back on April 6th with a viral infection, but then was pulled from his rehab start the next week with a hamstring strain. He restarted his rehab assignment at the beginning of the month and will now return to a spot on the Angels’ active roster, with Drew Pomeranz headed to the IL. Johnson will be an option for the final spot in the rotation that’s currently being held by Alek Manoah, who has been pitching in bulk relief.

This isn’t a huge surprise since Giolito is required to be on an MLB roster by May 17th, which would be this Sunday, the final game of the series against the Mariners. The veteran right-hander was much better in his final rehab start, throwing six shutout innings for Double-A San Antonio while allowing three hits and striking out three. The 31-year-old was solid for the Red Sox last season, but lacks the strikeout upside he possessed in his early MLB seasons. He remains a deep-league option and one we’d probably pick up and keep on our bench for this weekend.

The Yankees are throwing left-hander Max Fried, so it’s likely that Beavers would have sat anyway, but the team also sent him for an MRI on his oblique and is “going over the results.” That’s a bit of an ominous sign. Leody Taveras will start in centerfield and bat sixth on Wednesday, but there remains a possibility that Beavers could land on the IL. That would open up playing time for Colton Cowser or potentially Heston Kjerstad (hamstring), who is rehabbing in Triple-A right now.

Aleman has thrown 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen over the last three days, so the Guardians are just trying to get a fresh arm in the bullpen. He should get another chance in the near future.

Heuer has a 2.57 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 12/7 K/BB ratio in 14 innings at Triple-A this season. The 29-year-old had the look of an impactful reliever when he made his MLB debut as a 23-year-old back in 2020. However, he battled injuries and didn’t make any MLB appearances between 2022 and 2024 before returning for just 4 2/3 innings in 2025. It would be a nice story to see him re-emerge as a solid bullpen piece.

Volpe was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday after Jose Caballero (finger) was put on the injured list. However, it was Max Schuemann who started at shortstop on Tuesday. Volpe should now play every day at shortstop until Caballero is back, but he hit just .205 in nine games at Triple-A. Caballero is also not expected to be out much longer than two weeks, so Volpe is more of a short-term add in deeper formats right now.
