    Diamondbacks released OF Rusty Ryal.
Ryal returned to the D’Backs this season after a year spent in Japan, but he batted just .241/.273/.361 at Triple-A Reno. His release clears room on the roster for new acquisition Tyler Bortnick.

Andrew Benintendi went 2-for-5 and hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth as the White Sox downed the Diamondbacks 4-1 on Thursday.
Benintendi’s 410-foot fly off Paul Sewald was his second homer of the season. He’s hitting just .216/.266/.392 with a 35 percent strikeout rate, but the White Sox have been letting him lead off and DH against right-handers. It’s quite the long shot, but they’d love to see him get hot and open up the possibility that someone might want him in trade, even if the White Sox would surely have to pick up most of the ~$28 million remaining on his contract to make it happen.
Mets snap skid as Soto returns, Lindor exits
Fantasy managers should expect Juan Soto to return to his normal self after looking "great" in his return to the Mets lineup, where New York snapped its skid but lost Francisco Lindor to injury.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #65
Davis Martin limited the Diamondbacks to one run through 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday.
Martin fanned seven, besting his previous season high by one. It’s his fourth straight quality start, and he’s now 3-1 with a 2.01 ERA. It still seems like something of a fluke; his 22 percent strikeout rate is just average, and his 51 percent hard-hit rate against is one of the highest marks in the leagues. He’s been a flyball pitcher, too. He’ll get the Angels at home next time out. We’d continue to avoid him in mixed leagues.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #31
Grant Taylor picked up his first win after getting five outs in the seventh and eighth Thursday against the D-backs.
He allowed two hits and struck out three. After opening four times earlier this month, Taylor has been a traditional reliever in his last three outings, which is definitely best for his AL-only value. He came into the day with no decisions, no saves and one hold in nine appearances this season.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #58
Seranthony Domínguez struck out two in a perfect ninth for his fifth save Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Domínguez has converted five straight save chances since blowing his first opportunity on March 29. He should be ready to pitch again Friday after throwing only 12 pitches today.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #34
Michael Soroka turned in five innings of one-run ball Thursday against the White Sox.
Soroka struck out six. He allowed seven hits, but he was rather unlucky to do so; the White Sox actually went 6-for-11 against him on non-hard-hit balls. Soroka departed a 1-1 game, so he remains 4-0 with a 2.60 ERA. He’ll likely get six days off before making his next start next Thursday in Milwaukee.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #38
After coming into a tie game in the ninth, Paul Sewald gave up a three-run homer to Andrew Benintendi to take a loss Thursday against the White Sox.
Sewald dropped to 0-3 on the season, but he’s still 7-for-7 on his save chances. Until he blows one of those, he should remain the clear closer in Arizona. If the D-backs do need to move on at some point, Jonathan Loáisiga and Juan Morillo will be in the mix to replace him.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #5
Munetaka Murakami had his home run streak snapped at five games while going 1-for-5 with three strikeouts Thursday against the D-backs.
Murakami had a chance against a homer-prone Paul Sewald after Andrew Benintendi went deep to give the White Sox the lead in the ninth, but he managed only a 278-foot fly. Murakami did single earlier in the contest, so at least he’s sitting on a six-game hitting streak.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #12
Cubs acquired INF Nicky Lopez from the Rockies for cash considerations.
The 31-year-old infielder had been playing at Triple-A Albuquerque where he was slashing a solid .333/.387/.519 with a homer, eight RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 62 plate appearances. It’s unclear if the Cubs plan to promote him immediately to the big league roster or if he’ll report to Triple-A Iowa.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #31
Tyler Glasnow fanned nine and combined with Tanner Scott on a one-hitter in the Dodgers’ 3-0 shutout of the Giants on Thursday.
The Giants sent just 28 men to the plate today. Luis Arraez singled in the fourth and then was erased on a double play. There was also a double play in the second after a Hyeseong Kim error allowed Heliot Ramos to reach. The only runner left on base by the Giants was Arraez after a first-inning walk. It’s just the fourth time ever that Glasnow, who has never thrown a complete game, has finished eight innings; he did so twice in 2021 with the Rays and once with the Dodgers in 2024. He’s now 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 38/7 K/BB through 34 innings, and he’ll face the Marlins next week.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #66
Tanner Scott pitched a flawless ninth with a three-run lead for his first save Thursday against the Giants.
Scott went without a strikeout, but none of the three balls in play against him proved difficult. The outing lowers his ERA to 0.84. The Dodgers aren’t naming a closer with Edwin Díaz out, but Scott seems like the best bet in their pen at the moment.
