Padres optioned RHP Adys Portillo and INF Edinson Rincon to Double-A San Antonio; OF Yeison Asencio to High-A Lake Elsinore.
No surprise cuts here. Portillo, who was one of the Padres’ big international signings a few years back, posted a 3.34 ERA with 107 strikeouts over 126 2/3 innings between Low- and Double-A last season.

Willson Contreras is back at first base for the Red Sox in Wednesday’s game against the Phillies.
Contreras, who left Sunday’s game with a hand contusion, is hitting cleanup today. Mickey Gasper is staying in the lineup as the DH and No. 2 hitter, as the Red Sox have opted to give Ceddanne Rafaela the day off and play Masataka Yoshida in the outfield.
Misiorowski has ceiling to become MLB's best SP
CC Sabathia dives into Jacob Misiorowski's electric start to the season, highlighting why his "unhittable" fastball has the 24-year-old primed to enter the "Paul Skenes" tier of aces if he can improve command.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
Max Fried left Wednesday’s game after three innings with a likely injury.
As soon as Fried finished the third at 61 pitches, he went straight into the tunnel to the clubhouse and the Yankees got up Paul Blackburn in the pen, and it was Blackburn who showed up on the mound to start the fourth. Fried was charged with three runs before departing.

Mariners designated LHP José Suarez for assignment.
The Mariners needed space on the active roster for Bryce Miller (oblique) to be activated off the injured list, so Suarez was let go. The left-hander was claimed off waivers from the Braves on May 4th and made just one appearance for the Mariners, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. He has a 6.38 ERA in 18 1/3 innings in total this season.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #33
FOX19’s Charlie Goldsmith reported that the Reds are signing RHP Chris Paddack.
Paddack was designated for assignment by the Marlins on May 5th and cleared waivers on Monday, so he is now a free agent. The 30-year-old posted an inflated 7.34 ERA across 30 2/3 innings this season and should, presumably, simply be organizational starting pitching depth for the Reds.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #31
The Athletic’s Britt Ghiroli reports that the Cubs have signed RHP Liam Hendriks to a minor league contract.
Hendriks was with the Twins to begin the season, but had an opt-out clause that he enacted prior to the end of spring training. His four-seam fastball was averaging below 94 mph this spring, and he’s missed significant time with injuries over the last few seasons. He remains a feel-good story because of all he has had to overcome over the last few seasons, but his days of being an impactful fantasy reliever are likely over.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Mariners activated RHP Bryce Miller (oblique) from the 15-day injured list.
Miller will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Astros and then, reportedly, enter into a piggyback situation with Luis Castillo. Miller has been up to 61 pitches in his last rehab start, so he could perhaps get to 70-75 today against the Astros, which makes him tough to rely on in fantasy leagues. His future value is also clouded by his potential role. If he is the opening pitcher in a piggyback situation with Castillo, that could limit Miller’s chances of wins and crush a lot of his fantasy value.
  • BAL Catcher #98
Orioles recalled C Maverick Handley from Double-A Chesapeake.
With Dylan Beavers (oblique) landing on the injured list, the Orioles will call up Handley to serve as the backup catcher, meaning Samuel Basallo will remain primarily a designated hitter.
  • BAL Right Fielder #12
Orioles placed OF Dylan Beavers on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
This felt like a possibility after the news earlier today that Beavers had an MRI on his oblique. It’s unfortunate timing since Beavers was starting to play more often, and it could open the door for Colton Cowser or Heston Kjerstad (hamstring), currently rehabbing in Triple-A, to push for a starting job in the outfield.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #13
Angels placed LHP Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation.
Pomeranz pitched on Tuesday and allowed one run (unearned) on one hit while also walking one. Something must not have felt right during or after the appearance because he’s now going on the injured list. We’ll wait to hear more about his possible timeline for return.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #32
Angels activated RHP Ryan Johnson (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list.
Johnson was put on the injured list back on April 6th with a viral infection, but then was pulled from his rehab start the next week with a hamstring strain. He restarted his rehab assignment at the beginning of the month and will now return to a spot on the Angels’ active roster, with Drew Pomeranz headed to the IL. Johnson will be an option for the final spot in the rotation that’s currently being held by Alek Manoah, who has been pitching in bulk relief.
