Blue Jays RHP prospect Adam Kloffenstein allows just two hits over five scoreless innings on Sunday for short-season Vancouver.
Kloffenstein, 18, did walk four, but he was able to work around those walks in large part because he was able to strike seven. A third-round pick by Toronto in 2018, Kloffenstein has pitched well in his eight starts with the Canadians in 2019 with an ERA of 2.27 and 33/15 K/BB mark. The walks are problematic right now, but he doesn’t turn 19 until August 25, and he’s still learning to repeat his delivery; which isn’t uncommon for young hurlers of that size. He gets his fastball up to 97 mph with sink, and he shows an above-average change and slider right around that grade, as well. If he can’t improve the command he’ll have to pitch in relief, but with that size and stuff, Kloffenstein could be a starter -- and a good one -- when he’s ready in the next three-to-four seasons.

Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBI against the Rockies on Tuesday.
Betts got the scoring started for the Dodgers on Tuesday, taking Kyle Freeland deep for a two-run blast in the first inning. He added a single in the third, then later extended the lead with a three-run blast in the sixth off Zach Agnos to give him five RBI. Betts had just one hit in his previous four games before Tuesday’s offensive breakthrough. The 33-year-old shortstop is slashing .190/.250/.429 with six homers, 13 runs scored, and 15 RBI across 92 plate appearances.
Cabrera's injury the latest blow to Cubs' rotation
James Schiano unpacks Edward Cabrera's trip to the injured list, evaluating his uneven production to this point and what his absence means for the Cubs' injury-riddled rotation.

Brandon Marsh thinks he’ll be okay after leaving Tuesday’s game with a sprained finger.
Marsh said he hyperextended the finger, but that “we’re good.” Edmundo Sosa will probably start if Marsh can’t go on Wednesday.
  • COL Catcher #15
Hunter Goodman went 1-for-3 with a solo homer against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Goodman had the Rockies’ only run through eight innings, a solo blast off Eric Lauer in the second inning. Goodman was replaced later in the game as the Dodgers ran up the score. The home run was Goodman’s 12th of the season while hitting .242/.301/.474 with 31 runs scored and 20 RBI across 206 plate appearances.

Eric Lauer allowed one run while striking out four batters over six innings in a win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
Lauer, making his first start with the Dodgers, tossed a clean first inning before giving up a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the second. He went on to scatter three more hits and one walk over four more scoreless innings, going a season-high six frames in his Dodgers debut while collecting four strikeouts. He’ll make for a risky deep-league streamer with win potential when he takes on the Diamondbacks in Arizona next Tuesday.
  • AZ 3rd Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado is day-to-day with right groin tightness after leaving Tuesday’s game.
Arenado said he didn’t feel a pull in the area, and there are no plans for imaging. If he can’t go Wednesday, then Jose Fernandez becomes more likely to start against the Giants.

Amed Rosario went 4-for-4 with two homers as the Yankees crushed the Royals 15-1 on Tuesday.
It’s Rosario’s second two-homer game of 2026. He had just two prior to this season, one coming in 2018 with the Mets and another in 2021 with Cleveland. Rosario has had to settle for very cheap contracts as a free agent in recent seasons, but he’s proven to be useful as a starter against lefties, and he’s hitting .279/.316/.547 with 20 RBI in just 95 plate appearances this season. Jazz Chisholm Jr., Wilyer Abreu, Hunter Goodman, Alex Bregman and Fernando Tatis Jr. are a few of the players with at least twice as many plate appearances as Rosario and no more than 20 RBI.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #31
Cam Schlittler limited the Royals to one run in six innings and struck out six in an easy win Tuesday.
The Yankees gave Schlittler nine runs to work with in the first three innings of what ended up being a 15-1 victory. Schlittler responded accordingly and walked no one while recording his 18 outs on just 77 pitches. He’s 7-2 with a 1.50 ERA, and he’s due to face the Guardians next.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #33
Ryan Yarbrough picked up a three-inning save versus the Royals in a 15-1 victory Tuesday.
Yarbrough allowed two hits and one walk while throwing 44 pitches in the rout. It’s a nice reset for the rest of the Yankees pen, as he was the only reliever to work tonight. Yarbrough has a 3.66 ERA in 19 2/3 innings over 11 appearances.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #36
Bailey Falter was lit up for seven runs in 2 1/3 innings by the Yankees in a loss Tuesday.
Falter’s stuff just isn’t where it needs to be after he missed time with elbow inflammation, and he ended tonight with zero strikeouts and 13 hard-hit balls surrendered. The Royals won’t want to bail on him just yet, but they probably can’t start him again while he’s throwing like this. If he does take another turn, it’d likely be in Cincinnati on Monday.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe went 3-for-6 with a homer, a double and three runs scored Tuesday against the Royals.
Volpe got a second straight start at shortstop after sitting in José Caballero’s first two games back from the IL and has his best game of the season to date. The homer off Bailey Falter was his first in his 10 starts. He’s hitting .281/.425/.469 with seven RBI in 40 plate appearances.
