The 33-year-old was a massive disappointment for the Red Sox after signing a seven-year, $72.5 million contract in 2014 -- ultimately slashing .262/.301/.379 with seven homers and 35 RBI over 337 plate appearances in just 99 big league games. Castillo hasn’t played in a big league contest since 2016 and hit .278/.321/.448 with 17 homers and 64 RBI in 120 games at Triple-A Pawtucket in 2019. It’s unclear if he’ll attempt to use this opportunity as a springboard back to the big leagues, or if he plans to remain overseas.

This clears room on the 40-man roster for the recently acquired Connor Seabold. Berrios is going to miss the remainder of 2026 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, so this is just a procedural move. The hope is that Berrios will be ready for the summer of 2027.

Vasquez is a 22-year-old southpaw who has forged a 5.87 ERA in 12 appearances for High-A Vancouver with a 35/23 K/BB over 23 innings. It’s hard to see a path to relevance, but Detroit will see if they can work some magic.

Seabold was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Sunday, and unsurprisingly, there was interest in the right-hander. He’ll provide some multi-inning depth in the Toronto bullpen.

Kirk’s movement clears room on the 40-man roster for Austin Voth. The 27-year-old is still recovering from his fractured thumb, and the Blue Jays are hoping he’ll be able to return during the summer. The placement on the 60-day list doesn’t change that timeline.

Andrews worked in back-to-back games for Toronto after receiving his first MLB promotion, and he pitched well with three scoreless innings. He’ll head back to Triple-A so Toronto can call up a fresher Austin Voth, but there’s a good chance Andrews is back with Toronto before the summer ends.

Voth will get his second stint with Toronto in 2026 to provide some middle-inning depth. The 33-year-old gets the nod over Tanner Andrews, after Andrews was optioned to Buffalo to make room.

Raquet was only up for a day and didn’t make an appearance in his latest stint with the O’s. He heads back to Norfolk with Trey Gibson recalled to start Wednesday’s game against the Rays.

Gibson is up and will make the start Wednesday against the Rays. The 24-year-old is one of the best pitching prospects in the system, but he’s been shaky in his limited action with Baltimore while allowing four runs over 6 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Gibson, but he’s more of a long-term play right now.

The Royals need a fresh arm in the bullpen, so Black will return to Kansas City to operate as a middle-inning option who can work multiple frames if need be.

This comes a day after Falter was shellacked by the Yankees; giving up seven runs over 2 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and his previous success — mixed though it may be — gives him a decent chance to be claimed or traded. If he’s not, he’ll be able to elect free agency or report to Triple-A Omaha.
