    Rodriguez will provide the Nationals with some organizational infield depth this season. The 27-year-old shortstop hit .283/.333/.354 with three homers and two stolen bases across 453 plate appearances last year at Triple-A Louisville in the Reds’ minor-league system.

    Rockies signed RHP John Brebbia to a minor league contract.
    The 35-year-old right-hander was granted his release by the Twins last week after posting a 6.20 ERA over 20 1/3 innings at Triple-A St. Paul. He has a history of being a quality bullpen arm, which should be enough to earn him a shot with the Rockies at some point this summer, but his days of fantasy relevancy are long gone.

    Phillies optioned INF/OF Otto Kemp to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
    Kemp has really struggled to make contact during his limited time with the Phillies this season, hitting .080 (2-for-25) with a 10/1 K/BB ratio. That’s just not going to get it done. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level.

    Twins optioned RHP Travis Adams to Triple-A St. Paul.
    Adams, 26, has been knocked around in six appearances with the Twins this season, posting an 8.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and an 11/9 K/BB ratio across his nine innings. He’ll continue to hone his craft at the Triple-A level until a need arises in the Twins’ bullpen.

    Giants optioned OF Will Brennan to Triple-A Sacramento.
    Brennan has really struggled in his limited action with the Giants this season, hitting .087 (2-for-23) with a 3/0 K/BB ratio. The Giants will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday’s series opener against the Rockies.

    Rockies activated RHP Jeff Criswell from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.
    Criswell continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. He has made nine appearances in the minor leagues so far this season, posting a 5.91 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and an 18/4 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings. He’ll continue to work out of the bullpen at Triple-A Albuquerque for the time being.

    Rockies transferred LHP Jose Quintana to the 60-day injured list.
    The 37-year-old southpaw landed on the injured list with a left elbow sprain after exiting Sunday’s start against the Diamondbacks. He did undergo an MRI exam which revealed a sprain that won’t require surgery, though he will be shelved for at least a couple of months.

    Rangers released OF Andrew McCutchen.
    The 39-year-old outfielder ad been designated for assignment on Wednesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. He’s now free to explore opportunities elsewhere. McCutchen his just .192 (14-for-73) with one homer and five RBI in 37 contests with the Rangers.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #39
    Rangers activated INF Cody Freeman from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock.
    Freeman had been shelved since the end of March due to a lumbar stress reaction. He had already been rehabbing at Triple-A Round Rock, so he’ll remain there in an everyday role where he’ll continue to function as extra infield depth for the Rangers.
  • PIT Shortstop #85
    Konnor Griffin was held out of the Pirates’ starting lineup on Thursday due to right forearm soreness.
    The Pirates don’t believe the injury is anything serious and Griffin will be available off the bench on Thursday. Jared Triolo will start in his place at shortstop and will bat eighth for the Bucs against Cubs’ right-hander Colin Rea.

    Pirates optioned OF Esmerlyn Valdez to Triple-A Indianapolis.
    Valdez hit a couple of home runs during his brief stay with the Pirates, but really struggled to make consistent contact. He’ll return to an everyday role at Triple-A until his services are needed once more.
