Cardinals placed LHP Matthew Liberatore on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 19, with lower back tightness.
The Cardinals are justifiably proceeding with an abundance of caution after Liberatore experienced some back soreness recently, so he won’t make his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Pirates. The 23-year-old southpaw figures to return to St. Louis’ starting rotation mix in a few weeks.

Isaac Collins was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Tigers with a right knee contusion.
Collins was fortunate to avoid serious injury when he went crashing head-first into the left-field seats attempting to catch a foul ball during the first inning of Tuesday’s game at Comerica Park. The 28-year-old outfielder is presumably day-to-day but will probably need a couple days off to recover.
Is there larger issue with Crochet's performance?
Eric Samulski discusses Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet's disastrous outing against the Twins and whether fantasy managers should be worried about his performance moving forward.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #40
    Mets released RHP Luis García.
García’s time in New York is over after struggling to a calamitous 7.11 ERA across 6 1/3 innings. The 39-year-old veteran went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. It’s possible he’ll latch on somewhere else, but will probably have to settle for a minor league deal.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Priester has been out since spring training after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. The 25-year-old is scheduled to face hitters in extended spring training on Thursday before he’s officially cleared to head out on a rehab assignment. His return would provide some stability to the back-end of Milwaukee’s rotation.
  • MIL Center Fielder #11
Jackson Chourio (hand) is not expected to return until early May.
Chourio participated in on-field drills at American Family Field on Tuesday, but remains several weeks away from making it back to Milwaukee’s lineup. The 22-year-old franchise cornerstone has been working his way back from a fractured hand that he suffered late in spring training.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander (hip) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Wednesday.
Verlander made it through a 40-pitch bullpen session over the weekend without any issues and should be ready to make a minor league rehab start at some point early next week. The 43-year-old figures to make it back to Detroit before the end of April.
  • DET Center Fielder #22
Parker Meadows underwent surgery on Monday to repair a radial fracture in left forearm.
It’s theoretically possible Meadows returns this season, but he’s facing a lengthy absence after suffering a fractured arm on a collision with teammate Riley Greene last week. The 26-year-old outfielder was placed on the 60-day injured list over the weekend and won’t make it back until at leas the second half of the season.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #41
Brock Stewart (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Low-A Ontario.
Stewart is working his way back from last year’s shoulder procedure that cut his return to Los Angeles short. The 34-year-old figures to be ready to make his season debut at some point in the next few weeks.
  • KC Left Fielder #1
Isaac Collins left Tuesday’s game against the Tigers with a trainer.
Collins was immediately lifted from the contest after crashing into the stands to attempt to catch a foul ball. He was replaced by Tyler Tolbert in left field. There should be an update on his status following the contest.
  • AZ Left Fielder #12
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Double-A Amarillo.
Gurriel has been targeting a late-April return from last year’s surgery to repair a torn ACL in his knee. The 32-year-old corner outfielder figures to be ready to make his season debut in a couple weeks.
  • TEX Left Fielder #36
Wyatt Langford (quad) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Athletics.
Langford is back at DH and hitting second on Tuesday night in West Sacramento following a three-game absence due to a minor quad strain. The 24-year-old outfielder has struggled to get going at the plate this season, hitting .170 (9-for-53) with one homer, three RBI and one steal through 13 games. It’s only a matter of time before he turns it around. The encouraging development for fantasy managers is that he managed to avoid a trip to the injured list.
