Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol told reporters on Friday that Matthew Liberatore (back) will make one additional rehab start at Triple-A Memphis before rejoining the Cardinals.
The 23-year-old left-hander struggled in Wednesday’s start at Triple-A, giving up five runs on five hits and five walks over his 3 2/3 innings. He got up to 78 pitches in that outing, and will likely get pushed a bit further his next time out.

Cubs transferred RHP Hunter Harvey to the 60-day injured list.
Harvey suffered a setback in his recovery last week when he suffered a stress reaction while progressing through his throwing program. There’s still no clear timetable for his return. Moving him to the 60-day IL on Sunday cleared a spot on the Cubs’ 40-man roster for the promotion of Ty Blach.
What has made Bleday so successful lately?
Eric Samulski discusses how Cincinnati Reds' J.J. Bleday has been "one of the hottest hitters in baseball" recently, going over key statistics that speak to his success and why fantasy managers should look out for him.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #50
Cubs selected the contract of LHP Ty Blach from Triple-A Iowa.
The 35-year-old southpaw has made five appearances (three starts) at the Triple-A level, posting a 5.23 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 14/7 K/BB ratio over 20 2/3 innings. He’ll provide the Cubs with another option that’s capable of working multiple innings out of the bullpen.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #72
Cubs optioned RHP Javier Assad to Triple-A Iowa.
Assad has struggled in a hybrid role for the Cubs this season, posting a 5.88 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 14/7 K/BB ratio over 26 innings in eight appearances (three starts). He’ll return to the rotation at Triple-A Iowa where he’ll likely be the next man up the next time the Cubs require an extra starter. Ty Blach was promoted from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move on Sunday.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #36
Tigers placed RHP Ty Madden on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 16, with a right forearm contusion.
Madden was drilled in the forearm by a 107.9 mph line drive during Friday’s contest against the Jays. Fortunately, he didn’t suffer any structural damage, but after playing catch on Saturday he was still experiencing enough soreness that the Tigers opted to sit him down for a couple of weeks. Will Vest was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #19
Tigers activated RHP Will Vest from the 15-day injured list.
Vest will rejoin the Tigers’ bullpen on Sunday after missing a couple of weeks due to inflammation in his forearm. Before he was shelved, Vest posted an unsightly 6.17 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings of work. Ty Madden (forearm) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.
  • TEX Shortstop #5
Corey Seager (back) remains out of the Rangers’ lineup for Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Astros.
It’s the second straight game that Seager has missed with what the Rangers are calling “minor” back spasms. Ezequiel Duran will once again start in his place at shortstop and will bat fifth for the Rangers against Peter Lambert and the Astros.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve (side) was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s contest against the Rangers.
Altuve was sent for imaging on Sunday after injuring his left side on a swing during Saturday’s ballgame. The results of that MRI are not yet known, but it’s at least somewhat encouraging that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list — at least as of now. Brice Matthews will start in his place at second base and will bat leadoff for the Astros against Nathan Eovaldi and the Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #91
Guardians activated RHP Andrew Walters from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.
Walters had already been stationed at Triple-A Columbus while recovering from surgery to repair a lat muscle strain. He’ll remains there until an opportunity arises at the big league level.
  • CIN Right Fielder #57
Reds designated OF Rece Hinds for assignment.
The Reds needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the promotion of P.J. Higgins on Sunday and unfortunately for Hinds, he drew the short straw this time around. The 25-year-old outfielder slashed a pitiful .121/.167/.212 with an 18/1 K/BB ratio in 36 plate appearances for the Reds this season. There’s enough raw talent there that another team could show interest on waivers.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #7
Kazuma Okamoto is absent from the Blue Jays’ lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers.
It’s a rare day off for the 29-year-old slugger who has become a fixture in the middle of the Jays’ lineup. Okamoto is hitting .239/.326/.459 with 10 long balls and 27 RBI through his first 181 plate appearances in the big leagues. Ernie Clement will slide over and cover third base while Davis Schneider starts at second base and will bat ninth for the Jays.
