Joshua Palacios hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth Thursday as the Pirates defeated the Cubs 8-6.
Palacios was pinch-hitting for Alika Williams, who had previously replaced Miguel Andujar for defense. The homer gave the Pirates an 8-4 lead in the ninth, and it turned out that the team needed it, as Dansby Swanson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Palacios also hit a three-run homer Wednesday. He’s hit .234/.273/.420 in 247 PA as he tries to make a case to stick on the Pirates’ 40-man this winter. It might not be enough, but as impressive as his exit velocity numbers are, he’d be a popular minor league free agent.
