Athletics signed RHP Gerardo Reyes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 30-year-old right-hander posted a miserable 7.45 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and a 10/6 K/BB ratio across 9 2/3 innings in eight appearances with the Angels during the 2023 season. With a strong showing in Cactus League play, Reyes could carve out a role in the A’s Opening Day bullpen.

Hao-Yu Lee has been removed from Chinese Taipei’s World Baseball Classic roster with a left oblique strain.
Lee is heading back to Tigers spring training in Lakeland, Florida to undergo further evaluation. The 23-year-old second baseman was added to Detroit’s 40-man roster in the offseason after hitting .243/.342/.406 with 14 homers and 22 steals in 579 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo last year. Chinese Taipei kicks off the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday night with a showdown against Australia in Tokyo, Japan.
Will Acuna challenge Ohtani for 2026 NL MVP?
While Shohei Ohtani is expected to retain his NL MVP title this season, Drew Dinsick and Jay Croucher explain why Ronald Acuna Jr. and Juan Soto could make the race tighter than expected.
  • CHC Catcher #25
Moisés Ballesteros went 0-for-3 with an RBI on Wednesday as the Cubs defeated the Brewers 4-1 in Cactus League action.
Ballesteros seemingly has little margin for error over the next three weeks if he’s going to break camp as Chicago’s primary DH. The 22-year-old backstop has nothing left to prove at the Triple-A level and his above-average bat-to-ball skills should allow him to contribute right away in the majors. His 90th percentile exit velocity of 105.1 mph last year shows that he can do some damage from a power standpoint. He’s a name to watch closely over the next few weeks and a strong late-round target in deeper fantasy leagues.
  • MIL Left Fielder #22
Christian Yelich went 2-for-2 with a solo homer on Wednesday against the Cubs in his spring debut.
Break out the bubble wrap. With three weeks left in spring training we’ve seen everything we need to from Yelich already. The 34-year-old veteran figures to come at a discount as a utility-only option in fantasy drafts this spring, especially considering his checkered health history. His 150 games last year were his highest single-season total since 2022. There’s a strong possibility last year was the high-water mark from a production standpoint but forecasting 20 homers and at least 15 stolen bases doesn’t seem outlandish.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #30
Edward Cabrera fired 2 2/3 scoreless innings on Wednesday against the Brewers.
Cabrera scattered two hits and one walk while finishing with a pair of strikeouts.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #23
Brandon Sproat gave up two runs over three innings on Wednesday against the Cubs.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton went 2-for-2 with a homer off the bench Wednesday as Team USA topped the Rockies 14-4 in eight innings.
The game was close initially, with the Rockies actually leading 4-3 after four, but Team USA took over from there. Aaron Judge, Alex Bregman, Will Smith and Paul Goldschmidt also homered for the U.S. Buxton opened the game on the bench in favor of Pete Crow-Armstrong, who went 2-for-3 with two steals, but it seems like he’ll be Mark DeRosa’s primary choice in center field during the tournament.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #22
Pitching for Team USA, Clayton Kershaw gave up a homer and was charged with two runs while getting two outs against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Kershaw gave up a homer to Mickey Moniak on an 87-mph fastball. The retired left-hander’s velocity today was down about two mph from last year, which doesn’t bode very well for him getting key outs in the WBC. Ironically, because Kershaw was pulled before completing the fourth inning today and Team USA took the lead for good in the top of the fifth, the victory in this one went to Rockies minor leaguer Carson Skipper, who Team USA borrowed in case any of its pitchers couldn’t finish their assignments.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #21
Kyle Freeland gave up one run in an inning against Team USA in his spring debut Wednesday.
Freeland is a little behind because of back spasms, but aside from a big miss to Aaron Judge that was rightfully rocketed 453 feet out to left field, he looked good today. He should still have time to stretch out to at least five innings before the season starts.
  • CIN 3rd Baseman #27
Sal Stewart went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and also stole a base on Wednesday as the Reds demolished Cuba 19-2 in exhibition contest.
It won’t count towards his spring training stats but Stewart delivered another impressive showing, walloping a no-doubter to right field that gave Cincinnati a commanding nine-run advantage in the fourth inning. The 22-year-old slugging prospect ostensibly learned how to pull the ball more consistently to start tapping into his big-time power upside last year in the minors, finishing with 25 big flies in 136 games, including five in 18 big-league contests. He’s a strong contact hitter for a burgeoning slugger, which insulates against a total collapse at the highest level, and if the power spike sticks, he projects as a consistent 25-plus homer threat. He’s a strong late-round sleeper candidate in fantasy drafts this spring.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #25
Rhett Lowder posted three strikeouts over three innings on Wednesday against Cuba in an exhibition contest.
Lowder drew the starting assignment in this one and needed just 43 pitches (29 strikes) to navigate three frames, scattering two hits in the process. The soon-to-be 24-year-old missed all of last year due to an avalanche of injuries including a forearm strain and oblique issues that kept him on the shelf. He remains one of the better pitching prospects in Cincinnati’s system and should be ready to step into their rotation at some point in the regular season.
