Ellis is back for another stint on Long Island this year after being released a couple weeks ago by the Diamondbacks. The 31-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the majors since making 10 appearances (eight starts) between the Royals, Rays and Orioles from 2019-2022.

Stewart smacked a two-RBI double in the first inning off Cardinals starter Kyle Leahy to put the Reds up 2-0. He would later come around to score on an RBI single by Eugenio Suárez. Stewart is slashing .327/.422/.527 in his last 15 games, but the homers haven’t been there for the 22-year-old slugger. He’s hit just three bombs since May and is still looking for his first long ball in June.

Walker has now had back-to-back three-hit games and is slashing .288/.323/.441 in his last 15 games. Walker’s lone RBI came in the fifth inning when he doubled to bring home Alec Burleson. While the power hasn’t been there for Walker as of late, he continues to get on base at a good rate and has come across to score eight times in his last 15 games as well.

Buxton slammed into the wall while robbing Carter Jensen of an extra-base hit during the top half of the third inning. It sounds like he was fortunate to avoid any significant injuries during the collision. He may get an extra day off on Saturday just to be on the safe side, but shouldn’t be looking at any sort of extended absence.

The three runs Leahy allowed in this one all came in the first inning, with a two-RBI double by Sal Stewart kicking things off with one out. Eugenio Suárez would later single to bring home Stewart to give the Reds the early 3-0 advantage, but the Cardinals wasted little time battling to re-take the lead before turning the game into a full-blown blowout by the sixth inning. Leahy continues to see short outings and has made it out of the sixth inning just once in his 12 starts. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at the Mets.

Things couldn’t have started much worse for Singer, who saw two runners come across to score in the first inning on a fielding error and later, a wild pitch. After getting through the second inning without any issues, Singer would allow a solo homer to Alec Burleson in the third inning for what would be his only earned run allowed on the night. Singer struggled with his command at times despite hurling six strikeouts, and he hasn’t picked up a win since April. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday on the road against the Padres.

Fitzpatrick worked a perfect sixth inning, throwing 11 of his 14 pitches for strikes and setting the Rockies down in order. He was then set to return for the seventh but suffered an injury on a warmup pitch and was in clear and obvious pain. He’ll head for further evaluation, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 26-year-old southpaw land on the injured list after just being called up from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Iglesias has now been solid in each of his last three outings, allowing zero earned runs over that span while striking out three and lowering his ERA on the season to 0.92. He continues to be a viable option of the the bullpen when needed.

Buxton crashed into the outfield wall to rob Carter Jensen of an extra-base hit. He was then checked out by trainers on the field and opted to stay in the game, though he was lifted for a pinch hitter when the Twins came to bat in the home half of the inning. Presumably, he’s heading for additional evaluation to determine exactly what’s going on there. Expect the Twins to provide an update on his status after the game.

Dubón drove in three of the Braves’ six runs on the night. The Braves shortstop blasted a 404-foot homer in the third inning to tie the game at 3-3, and later doubled home Michael Harris II in the fifth inning to give the Braves the lead. Dubón is on a bit of a power tear at the moment, homering in three-straight games while also going 5-for-11 at the dish over that span with seven RBI.

The 31-year-old backstop really struggled offensively during his time with the Yankees, slashing a woeful .177/.235/.258 with zero homers, seven RBI and a 15/5 K/BB ratio in 68 plate appearances. The expectation is that the Yankees will promote Ali Sanchez from Triple-A on Saturday to take Escarra’s spot on the active roster.
