Baz didn’t overwhelm the A’s in notching just four strikeouts and eight missed swings tonight, but he produced a great deal of soft contact and allowed a total of three hits in the lengthiest start of his career. It looked like he’d wind up with a no-decision anyway, but Jose Siri homered in the eighth, putting Baz in line for the win, and Edwin Uceta finished things off after taking over with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. It’s Baz’s first win in eight starts since he returned from Tommy John surgery. He’ll face the Mariners next.

Crawford was removed from Friday night’s tilt against the Tigers in Detroit after he was plunked on the hand by Framber Valdez. Fortunately, he was able to avoid any significant injury. He’s considered day-to-day and could rejoin the M’s lineup as early as Saturday.

It appeared as though Varsho aggravated his wrist during a pair of swings in his first at-bat on Friday. He’s likely to undergo additional evaluation and imaging to determine exactly what’s going on there. As of now, he’s considered day-to-day.

Agnos was just optioned out on Monday, but he’ll get a chance to return with Tanner Gordon (hip) landing on the injured list. Agnos has posted a troublesome 7.78 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 37 innings as a long reliever for the Rockies this season.

Gordon sustained the injury during his last outing on Sunday. It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined for. Zach Agnos was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move on Friday to take his spot on the Rockies’ active roster.

Carpenter punctuated a three-run rally off of Bryan Woo in the third inning with a 347-foot (95.2-mph EV) two-run shot to right field. The 28-year-old slugger also struck out twice in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-4. On the season, he’s now slashing .239/.308/.504 with eight homers and 22 RBI in 133 plate appearances.

Torkelson added a pair of valuable insurance runs with a 389-foot (100.3-mph EV) two-run shot off of Alex Hoppe in the seventh inning that increased the Tigers’ lead to 7-2. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the night. For the season, the 26-year-old slugger is now slashing .214/.316/.410 with nine homers and 25 RBI on the season.

Torres started a three-run uprising with a one-out single off of Bryan Woo in the third inning and scored the Tigers’ first run a Kevin McGonigle hit into a fielder’s choice. He has collected seven hits including a home run in three games since returning from the injured list and has injected much-needed life into the Tigers’ offense. For the season, he’s slashing .287/.405/.388 with three homers and 14 RBI in 158 plate appearances.

The 32-year-old southpaw punched out five opposing hitters on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single off the bat of Rob Refsnyder in the opening inning. After that, he settled in and kept the M’s off the board through the fifth. Valdez generated nine swings and misses on 102 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 27 percent. Now 3-4 on the season, he’ll try to further improve upon his 4.21 ERA and 1.32 WHIP when he squares off against the Twins on Wednesday.

Emerson tagged right-hander Drew Anderson for a 351-foot (94.1-mph EV) solo shot in the seventh inning that pulled the Mariners to within a run at 3-2. That would be as close as they would get. The 20-year-old phenom is now slashing .255/.328/.582 with four homers, nine RBI and an 18/5 K/BB ratio over his first 61 plate appearances with the M’s.

On the plus side for fantasy managers, Woo racked up seven strikeouts on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. The Tigers got to him for three runs in the third inning, including a two-run blast by Kerry Carpenter. Woo then loaded the bases with one out in the seventh before turning the ball over to the bullpen and two of those runs scored as well. He generated 12 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll try to get back in the win column as he carries a 3.74 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 75/14 K/BB ratio (77 innings) into Thursday’s matchup agaist the Orioles in Baltimore.
