Cardinals recalled RHP Chris Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis.

Roycroft will give the Cardinals a fresh arm in the bullpen before their three-game set against Mets. He won’t operate in a high-leverage situation, if it’s avoidable, anyway.

Guardians sent OF George Valera outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Valera went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last weekend. The 25-year-old former prospect will stick around as organizational depth at Triple-A Columbus after hitting .216 (8-for-37) with zero homers and six RBI during 13 games for the Guardians this season.

Jackson Holliday (groin) is out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers.

No surprise after Holliday was removed from Saturday night’s win at Dodger Stadium with groin tightness. The 22-year-old former top prospect has hit .200 (17-for-85) with 14 runs scored, four homers, 12 RBI and three steals in 29 games since making his season debut back on May 19. He downplayed concern while talking to reporters on Sunday afternoon that he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Angels. It’ll be Jeremiah Jackson filling in at second base and hitting ninth on Sunday afternoon in his place.

Zack Gelof (head) is back in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Angels.

Gelof carries a surreal 23-game hitting streak into this one following a brief one-game absence after being hit by a pitch in the helmet during Friday’s contest. The 26-year-old has displayed noticeably improved contact skills this season, but it remains challenging to fully buy into his recent hot streak based on his track record. The on-field production is undeniable as he’s batting .360 (32-for-89) with five homers and two steals since his hit streak began on May 25.

Rockies placed RHP Blas Castaño on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 18, with a right pectoral strain.

Castaño is likely to be sidelined well into the second half of the season given the nature of the injury. The 27-year-old has posted an encouraging 3.92 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings in his Rockies debut this season.

Rockies designated LHP Sammy Peralta for assignment.

The procedural move opens a spot on Colorado’s roster for veteran reliever John Brebbia. Peralta posted an inflated 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 4/2 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings for the Rockies earlier this season. He figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and elect free agency.

Marlins selected the contract of C Brian Navarreto from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Navarreto fortifies Miami’s catching situation behind rookie starter Joe Mack with Liam Hicks requiring a trip to the injured list with a back strain. The 31-year-old got into eight contests for the Marlins last year. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Marlins activated 1B/OF Griffin Conine from the 60-day injured list.

Conine returns to Miami’s lineup following a 10-week absence working his way back from surgery to repair a tendon in his left hamstring back in mid-April. He went 4-for-10 with one homer during a three-game minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville. The 28-year-old offers some interesting over-the-fence pop and could be a cheap power source in extremely deep mixed leagues.

Marlins placed C Liam Hicks on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a lower back strain.

Miami made the decision to give Hicks some additional time off after he showed up to the ballpark on Sunday still experiencing back tightness. The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the most impactful catchers in fantasy this season, slashing .278/.359/.472 with a career-high 13 home runs, 53 RBI and one steal in 288 plate appearances through 73 games. Back issues can be complicated matters, but Hicks figures to return at some point in early July.

Marlins transferred LHP Josh Ekness to the 60-day injured list.

Ekness will be sidelined until at least early August after hitting the injured list with a calf strain earlier this month. The 24-year-old rookie southpaw posted a strong 1.69 ERA and 5/5 K/BB ratio across 5 1/3 innings over six appearances in a pair of stints with the Marlins prior to the injury.
