Nationals named Miguel Cairo interim manager.
Cairo had spent the last year and a half as Nationals bench coach and Dave Martinez’s right-hand man, which apparently gave him some pause about replacing Martinez now. A 17-year major leaguer, Cairo has also worked as a special assistant in the Reds front office, as a minor league infield coordinator for the Yankees and as a bench coach (and, eventually, interim manager) with the White Sox since retiring in 2012.

Pirates recalled RHP Brandan Bidois from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Bidois earns his first call-up to the big leagues after posting an inflated 7.20 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio across 15 innings at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 24-year-old prospect was added to Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster last November and will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.
Bolte a volatile prospect for Athletics outfield
Eric Samulski explains Henry Bolte's outlook in the MLB with the Athletics calling up the outfielder prospect from the minors.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #64
Pirates optioned RHP Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Sanders returns to the minors after allowing six runs with a 7/5 K/BB ratio across five innings for the Pirates in a couple stints this season. He’s made 11 appearances at the highest level over the last two years.
  • PIT Catcher #14
Pirates placed C Joey Bart on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 10, with a left foot infection.
No word yet on how much time Bart will miss. The 29-year-old backstop heads to the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies. It’ll be Henry Davis and Endy Rodríguez handling the catching duties in his absence.
  • BAL Right Fielder #12
Dylan Beavers was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Yankees with right oblique discomfort.
Colton Cowser will patrol center field and hit seventh in his place. Oblique issues can be complicated matters, which is why the Orioles aren’t going to take any chances here. The 24-year-old former top prospect, who is hitting .243/.331/.369 with two homers, 12 RBI and three steals in 33 games this season, will likely undergo evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue and whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #68
Orioles recalled RHP Tyler Wells from Triple-A Norfolk.
Wells returns to Baltimore’s relief mix with lefty Grant Wolfram (back) hitting the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Yankees. The 31-year-old former starter figures to pitch in long relief situations. He’s compiled a serviceable 3.44 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings for the Orioles this season.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #48
Orioles placed LHP Grant Wolfram on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 9, with a lower back strain.
Wolfram figures to miss at least a couple weeks. The 29-year-old southpaw has recorded a pedestrian 4.85 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 20/1 K/BB ratio across 13 innings over 16 appearances this season.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #58
Orioles RHP Lou Trivino elected free agency.
Trivino allowed six runs over three innings in a pair of appearances for the Orioles before being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 34-year-old veteran reliever will search for a new opportunity elsewhere.
  • TB Left Fielder #11
Gavin Lux (shoulder, leg) has been pulled off his minor league rehab assignment after suffering another shoulder injury.
Lux is dealing with a new shoulder issue and will undergo imaging to determine the extent of the ailment. He suffered a leg injury while working his way back from a shoulder impingement last month while playing in a rehab contest at Triple-A Durham. He’s been snake-bitten by the injury bug this season and has yet to make his Tampa Bay debut. There is no timetable for his return.
  • ATH Center Fielder
Athletics selected the contract of OF Henry Bolte from Triple-A Las Vegas.
It’s not hyperbolic to suggest that Bolte has been one of the hottest hitters in the entire minors this season, slashing an absurd .348/.418/.658 with 12 homers and 17 steals across 37 games in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The 22-year-old offers an interesting blend of power and speed, and has made some noticeable strides in the contact department, while also adding some additional hard contact this season. His biggest obstacle to immediate fantasy relevance is how the Athletics get his bat into the lineup as he figures to platoon with Carlos Cortes in left field for now. He’s talented enough to warrant a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats, but managers should keep expectations in check as he adjusts to everyday life in the big leagues.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman #16
Athletics selected the contract of 2B Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Stefanic returns to the big leagues with Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson landing on the shelf with a shoulder injury. The well-traveled 30-year-old figures to occupy a bench role and can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes. He’s hit .227/.314/.267 with zero homers and 14 RBI in 99 games in the majors since 2022.
