Angels recalled RHP Sam Bachman from Triple-A Salt Lake.

With Robert Stephenson (elbow) landing on the injured list, Bachman will get another chance to show what he can do out of the Angels’ bullpen. He has made 19 appearances with the team already on the season, compiling a 4.96 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 14/6 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings of work. Expect him to be used in the middle innings.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Juan Burgos from Triple-A Reno.

Burgos has spent the entire season at Triple-A Reno where he has registered a 6.59 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 19/13 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings in his 26 appearances. He adds a fresh arm that’s capable of working multiple innings to the Diamondbacks’ bullpen for Thursday’s battle against the Cardinals.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Mitch Bratt to Triple-A Reno.

Bratt made his big league debut against the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing just one run over three strong innings of work. If he’s going to return to make another start against the Giants on Monday, the Diamondbacks would need to have someone land on the injured list. Juan Burgos was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Thursday to add a fresh arm to the team’s bullpen.

Diamondbacks transferred RHP Ryne Nelson to the 60-day injured list.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Nelson, who is dealing with a partially torn forearm flexor, this was done merely as a procedural move to clear a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for the addition of Max Kepler on Thursday. The expectation is that Nelson will miss the remainder of the 2026 season.

Diamondbacks optioned INF/OF Tim Tawa to Triple-A Reno.

With Max Kepler joining the team on Thursday, someone needed to get the boot from the Diamondbacks’ bench and Tawa would up drawing the short straw. The 27-year-old hit just .172/.270/.266 with one homer, eight RBI and an 18/9 K/BB ratio over 76 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks.

Diamondbacks activated OF Max Kepler from the restricted list.

The 33-year-old outfielder has finished serving his 80-game PED suspension and will be active and in uniform for the Diamondbacks on Thursday evening against the Cardinals in St. Louis. He should see fairly regular action against right-handed pitching if he proves that he’s able to hold his own after the long layoff.

Ernie Clement (hip) returned to the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Thursday’s contest against the Rangers.

Clement was held out of the starting lineup each of the previous two nights due to soreness in his hip, though he did come in off the bench on Wednesday and play a couple of innings at shortstop. He’s back in there at shortstop and batting second for the Jays against Rangers’ southpaw MacKenzie Gore on Thursday evening in Toronto.

Josh Jung is not in the Rangers’ starting lineup for Thursday evening’s matchup against the Blue Jays.

It looks to be nothing more than a routine night off for the 28-year-old slugger. Ezequiel Duran will cover third base in his absence and will bat sixth for the Rangers against Blue Jays’ right-hander Kevin Gausman.

CJ Abrams is not in the Nationals’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s matchup against the Phillies due to renewed tightness in his left side.

Abrams missed Tuesday’s game with the same issue. Nationals’ skipper Blake Butera told reporters on Thursday that Abrams should be available off the bench and isn’t expected to miss any substantial time. He’s still considered day-to-day.

Kyle Schwarber (back) returned to the Phillies’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s tilt against the Nationals.

Schwarber missed each of the team’s previous two games due to tightness in his back, though he did draw a walk as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday. The 33-year-old slugger returns to a terrific .252/.367/.594 slash line to go with a league-leading 29 homers and 52 RBI through 338 plate appearances on the season.

Angels sent INF Nick Madrigal outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Madrigal, 29, was designated for assignment on Monday as Jorge Soler returned from the injured list. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until another need arises with the Angels.
