The Rockies won’t hire either of their two known finalists for their head of baseball operations job, sources told The Athletic.
Just went it seemed the Rockies were going to try functioning as a competent organization for once. Amiel Sawdaye of the Diamondbacks and Matt Forman of the Guardians were reported as the finalists for gig last week, and the Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli said Sawdaye had emerged as the favorite. However, it appears that Sawdaye and the Rockies might have had different ideas when it came to contract terms. The Rockies aren’t thought to have any other finalists for the job, so they might be back at square one.

Phillies selected the contract of INF/OF Felix Reyes from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Reyes receives his first promotion to the big leagues after spending six seasons in Philadelphia’s system since 2021. The unheralded 25-year-old has hit .333/.345/.654 with six homers in 18 games at the Triple-A level this year. He’ll likely fill a bench role for the Phillies and is unlikely to play enough to matter in fantasy leagues.
Baldwin scorching to start the season for Atlanta
James Schiano discusses Drake Baldwin's hot start to the season and the metrics that show why he may challenge Cal Raleigh for the best hitting catcher.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #51
Phillies recalled RHP Seth Johnson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Johnson returns to Philadelphia’s bullpen with closer Jhoan Duran hitting the injured list with an oblique strain. The 27-year-old righty was shelled for five runs over 1 1/3 innings earlier this week in his season debut. He’s likely ticketed for low-leverage work.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #59
Phillies placed RHP Jhoan Duran on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 15, with a left oblique strain.
At this point, someone should probably encase Mason Miller in bubble wrap. It’s been a brutal start to the season for elite closers, with Duran the latest to hit the injured list. The hard-throwing 28-year-old stopper is likely facing a multi-week absence, even in a best-case scenario, after logging five saves to accompany a microscopic 1.35 ERA across 6 2/3 innings of work this season. There should be an official timeline from the Phillies at some point soon. Orion Kerkering has the stuff to close games and José Alvarado’s previous closing experience make him a potential option in certain matchups. However, Brad Keller is the logical choice to take over the ninth inning in Philadelphia, which makes him worthy of a roster spot in all fantasy leagues.
  • PHI Left Fielder #4
Phillies optioned INF/OF Otto Kemp to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Kemp showed some promise as a rookie last year, but he’s played sparingly this season, going just 2-for-20 at the dish in 10 games. The 26-year-old should benefit from playing every day in the minors as opposed to languishing on Philadelphia’s bench.
  • FA Right Fielder #24
    Phillies released OF Pedro León.
The procedural move opens up a spot on Philadelphia’s 40-man roster to make some moves at the big-league level. León was shipped to the minors back in mid-March after being claimed off waivers from the Astros last November.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #45
White Sox claimed RHP Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Braves.
Bido winds up with his seventh different organization in the last five months. The latest stop on the 30-year-old swingman’s bizarre odyssey takes him to the Windy City where the rebuilding White Sox need someone to soak up innings in a long relief role.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #52
White Sox transferred RHP Prelander Berroa to the 60-day injured list.
Berroa remains on the shelf recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery and won’t be an option for Chicago’s relief mix until the second half of the year.
  • COL Left Fielder #3
Willi Castro (hand) remains out of the lineup for the third straight game on Saturday against the Dodgers.
Castro has been dealing with a lingering hand issue after being hit by a pitch earlier this week. Edouard Julien takes over at second base to face Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan. It’s possible Castro winds up requiring a trip to the injured list if he’s not ready to go by the end of the weekend.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #49
Guardians re-signed LHP Kolby Allard to a minor league contract.
Allard spent a couple hours, literally, on the free agent wire before returning to Cleveland on a brand-new minor league deal. The 28-year-old southpaw was torched for 10 runs on 16 hits over 8 2/3 innings across four relief appearances earlier this month.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #70
José Buttó underwent surgery Friday to remove a blood clot from his right armpit and will miss 5-6 months.
Buttó made the revelation on his Instagram page, adding that it was an extremely rare surgery for an athlete to address a blood clot in his armpit that was limiting his mobility and causing pain while he pitched. The official timeline comes from a team statement. The positive news is that Buttó is in recovery but he’s highly likely to miss the remainder of the season.
